Pond86: Speaking as one even then its a miss. Most collectors will not start a collection or get a console for 1 game. Especially when there's a strong chance it will come out to other systems like this. The only exception to this can be the limited run games, but this isn't one of them.

Collectors usually only focus on systems they enjoy. Very few go for every game ever as its not really doable.

Or systems like the PS-One Classic/mini, which had/has a limited selection of games, no disc drive, etc.
I gotta say I am SO buying the Japanese Mega Drive Mini as it has a number of games I don't have especially on the Japanese end. Rent-A-Hero?! Yes please.

Darvond: ...and given that the credited creator of Earthworm Jim is kinda a yikes, no matter how you slice your walk of life, I'd be given pause in association.

PhilD: What makes him "kinda a yikes"? Honest question, aside from his name I don't know anything about him.
The real answer...he's a Christian who speaks his opinion. And certain types of people will use someone's religion against them if it's the "wrong" religion to smear them if they dare say anything in the slightest that opposes their ideology. He's "yikes" because of "wrongthink". He also supports independent comic creators.

I certainly don't agree with everything I've heard him say, but I can't say I agree with everything anyone has to say. He's nowhere near as controversial as certain people want to make him out to be. Some people just like to play "speech police" against their political opponents.

i_hope_you_rot: Only geeks , game collectors .
Geeks/game collectors bought the NES/SNES classic, I doubt anyone really cares about the Intellivision lol, it's like someone being nostalgic for the 3DO console.

Right here, I would buy a 3DO classic(with most of 3DO's exclusives or best versions of said game), a CDi classic for a fixed Zelda's Adventure and even a PC98 classic.
I would consider buying a combined Pippin/Playdia classic. I would jump at a Japan only PC Engine classic if the selection was good. I love Hudson Soft and feel they are criminally underrated, much like SNK was for the longest time outside of fighters and later Metal Slug.

It's older than the NES, so that tends to put it outside the island of playablity/interest for most people.

To me, buying such is a waste of money if they can't even run original cartridges(or can download more games to add to the starting library off the net). Why should I buy a system that runs a select grouping of games(picked by curator whims and whatever the IP holders allow) on a set audio.visual output when I can buy old cartridges and dump the roms into emulators?

Yeah, I know....legality.....but imo if creators don't wanna play fair and I legally bought a copy of the game I should be able to do with it what I want(in the privacy of my own home/with myself only I mean).

I'll agree that I don't understand why they can't do what the Neo-Geo X did, having the SD card option if they don't want to worry about online functionality. Given how so many of these have expandability baked in. I get it with Nintendo but RENTING classic games via Switch online?! This is why I'm buying more and more games I don't own on the Wii U's VCS and plan to do so with the 3DS, especially on the Japanese side. Sega I get it less so since they no longer have a console, it's more likely Capcom and others want to sell their games in collections or piecemeal on current consoles.
