So I'm old fashioned and I just enter "GoG" into my search engine and click on the site to get here.

Today, a bunch of the "search hits" were from gaming media sites (PC Gamer etc) announcing Galaxy 2.0 was about to come out of beta - is this common knowledge? Or do I get to break the forum news for once?

I'm not a client user but the features in 2.0 did seem pretty cool if you're into that sort of thing.

So, congrats GoG if you're about to go out of Beta!

It would certainly seem (from the comments I have seen, and that it’s galaxy in the first place) that they are definately out of better (corrected spelling)!
Considering we haven't gotten any updates for months, I believe they've spent this time finishing it all up instead of releasing monthly updates like they did at the end of last year.

I wonder though if they'd added anything other than the promised features.

2 months isn't that long, but it was a minor update. From that I'd assume that it was stable at that point and they're working on the next major update which I guess will take us out of beta. I can't imagine coming out of beta won't bring a major update.

Personally, I'm hoping for the tags to be linked back up to the ones used on the web library page (which were also used by Galaxy 1). Galaxy 2's tag system is (at the moment) weirdly independent.
Yeah, I'm kinda surprised the emails aren't being sent in a sensible chunked matter.
I like galaxy 2.0, it allows you to put different games from different places together, track scores and the flashy ui has a nice feel. That said i can understand why people would prefer the older one, it was simpler to use and had that nice news feed to the side. It was better in some ways. And some of the visuals from that old launcher was nice.

What galaxy 2.0 may need is more work. Or maybe they could maintain two versions. I don't think it's terrible however. Even if there was quite a change from one to another. Previously I was not as motivated to use gog galaxy launcher.

Can we revert back to 1.2 if we don't like 2.0?
I like the look of the library on the website, but I believe it would be too time-consuming to also implement that in the new client because it uses a different cover format. Older games not avaliable on GOG would run into problems since you can't just pull that kind of cover from MobyGames or a similar database site.

I gotta be honest, I completely forgot that even happened.

So, wait -- every time you want to visit the site, you enter "gog" or "gog.com" into a search field, let it load a search results page, then click a link to go to the main page? Even if bookmarks are somehow too newfangled for you, why wouldn't you just type "gog.com" into your browser's address bar, then hit enter? You know, skip a step?

100% yes. I guess I *could* load up Firefox and just type in gog.com - but I always just query the search field - dunno why.

(and FYI - I type in "GoG")
