SirPrimalform: I don't have that specific pad, but I can vouch for the general quality of 8bitdo controllers. I have the SFC30 (non pro) and it's one of the best SNES replica pads I've used.
I'm am using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. I don't even own a Nintendo Switch. I feel that ergonomics and feel play by far the biggest role in wanting to use a controller over virtually any other reason.
I personally find the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to be the most comfortable, and I like the layout and over-all feel of everything. Short of an ultra high-end controller (with swappable parts etc), I don't think there is anything built as high quality. The D-pad is the right level of clicky without incorrect inputs. The analog sticks feel tight, the dimple and rubber keep good grip on the thumbs. The buttons all feel good going down, not loose or squishy, and their shape is flatter and more matte so my fingers don't/can't slide when they're depressed like on XB1. The triggers are more clicky (and not analog) so they can be depressed immediately with no/low effort.
I am also interested in steam controller since i read the steam controller review and it mentioned that Steam has innovated the standard controllers by replacing the thumbsticks with innovative gamepads. Though i need to verify it to other sources as well.

carnival73: Yup, some games have been patched since and also the pad issue might've been relevant only to a version tailored to Steam to accommodate all of it's strings and wires.

When a game doesn't immediately work with my F710 I make sure Steam's Big Picture game pad settings haven't been accidentally bumped on (those make a big big mess! ) and try both d-input and x-input modes. If the prior fail then I check to see if there's an option for mouse, WASD only and use Pinnacle.
FYI don't download it from their main site.

tinyE: this is what I have. Love it, though I can't imagine trying to play Tomb Raider with a controller.

timppu: But that's how e.g. the Playstation owners always played it.

I once configured Tomb Raider (GOG version) to use my F310 gamepad. It took some time to cram all the different controls to suitable buttons and triggers on the gamepad and I think I possibly had to do it through DOSBox configuration (not sure if DOS Tomb Raider supported any gamepads out of the box)... but after it was done, it was marvellous. That game really is designed for a gamepad, which is not surprising considering it was also a Playstation game.

But it is fine to play also with a keyboard, a gamepad is not a must on the PC version.
Absolutely correct on the playstation, still have my game(s) and console, and still love it 23 years later, favourites of Duke, F1 '97, TR 1 2 3 4, Doom, Worms, GT 2, DC and DC2,DD Raw(disc bust) RES Evil 1 2 3 many others, never went past ps2 though, PC Online taking most of time now.
