This is bad. Very bad. I wonder if The Internet Archive had considered salvaging at least the patches...

Where the patches and whatnot hosted on their servers or were they redirected to others? If the latter, it could be possible the "Wayback Machine" of the Internet Archive has their pages with the links to the outside sources.

Given the technology today now though, it almost seems like someone should have a "cloud" solution for this type of service they provided.
Sad :(

Quickly grabbed the City of Abandoned Ships combined mod.

...now GoG needs to release the game :P
alright, i'll just grab some JK2 and JKA mods.

edit:

site is down for me.

I think ModDB will only save the files for the popular ( aka available on Steam ) games .

Can't Gog or the Gog community save and host mods and patches on a server ?
To me GameFront died when they fired their let's-players James Heaney and Mitchel. The Demon's- and Dark Souls playthroughs with James are probably the most entertaining playthroughs I ever seen. The Gauntlets, Challenges and other team-based stuff were also really fun to watch.

In my opinion things went downhill after the company got new owners, who decided to "streamline" things and force their let's-players to finish their games as quickly as possible instead of letting them take their time and enjoy the games. To me this always shows itself in videos.

There were other changes too that I don't think took advantage of the company's strengths. They had a GiantBomb-thing going on but the new owners opted to instead steer the company towards the IGN/GameSpot direction.
I rarely used that site, but losing mods forever is terrible!
Our only hopes are Moddb and Nexusmods, I guess..
2 more days if you want to grab something off the site.
That's really bad news, and with so close notice :( I've downloaded most of my UT2004 mods, maps and mutators over there, but I never deleted them and backed them up, but I wonder how many cool maps that I didn't even know about would be gone for good :(

A lot man, a lot. A lot of forums point to gamefront dl links.

The website itself was shite for browsing mods and patches, but when you got a link to dl page, the speeds were adequate.

Also some dl links from ModDB also point to gamefront dl links. Maybe they are backing those up?

I hope so, and yeah the speed was awesome the fastest I've got from international servers.
Well time to go through the mods section and get what is not on other sites... man I loved going to that site back in the days well gg gamefront you did your time well <3
Are the files now hosted in safer, less prone to shut down places now?
