Eanthol: Control and Annihilation
Annihilation is a rework of Roadside Picnic though, so the game relation would be the STALKER series, Pacific Drive, Final Station etc etc

Control is very much more a David Lynch (or even David Cronenburg) meets X-files thing.
Total Carnage too!

The hero possessing somebody via time-travel to avert a disaster? Source Code might as well be a Timesplitters 2 level!

viperfdl: I don't know. Maybe Theme Hospital and Scrubs, even so Scrubs was just a TV-show.
Britannia Hospital is the perfect companion film for Theme Hospital.
Leisure Suit Larry; The 40 Year Old Virgin
There's a joke in there somewhere... ;)

Wolfenstein - Dead Snow / Where Eagles Dare

LegoDnD: Even better: Stray and Flow! Both fallow a regular house cat in a world previously bristling with humans, now overflowing with either mobile fungal creatures or literal water.
Nice, didn't knew about that one.
Fun topic, thanks Breja. I'll come back should I think of one.

I don't know that movie so I couldn't tell.

I'd more liken Annihilation to Obduction: both feature a patch of land full of man-made structures but encased inside a bubble and warped by alien influence. What Obduction lacks in DNA fusions and body-horror, it makes up for in subtly oppressive atmosphere and puzzles.

andysheets1975: ... No One Lives Forever - Deadlier Than the Male...
I just watched that movie, funny to see it referenced here since it's pretty obscure. It was also pretty terrible, I would much rather have been playing NOLF ;)

If I could pick a TV show instead of a movie, I'd pair NOLF with the Emma Peel seasons of The Avengers.

Ok, I have one obvious comparison.

I think Mass Effect has way more in common with Babylon 5, to the point where it seems hard to imagine B5 wasn't a huge inspiration for the games at the outset.

very similar means of space travel Jump Gates - Mass Relays
Earth goes to war after first contacts with older alien races (Minbari - Turians)
Babylon 5 - The Citadel big space station used as hub of commerce and diplomacy for humans and aliens
Ancient powerful enemies returning after millennia (Shadows/Reapers)
Psychic powers (Telepaths vs. Bionics)

You could even argue the names Sheridan/Shepherd sound suspiciously similar.

Given the fact that many game directors are movie fans, I wouldnt be surprised if quite a few games are heavily inspired by movies.

Metal Gear Solid 3 and James Bond/Mission Impossible

Days Gone and the Walking Dead (tv show but I do honestly think Days is the closest experience to living in the Walking Dead world)

God Eater and Pacific Rim (no mechas but you are fighting Kaiju basically)

Freelancer and Star Wars (from a Han Solo perspective)

Kena: Bridge of Spirits and How to Train your Dragon/Brave

Dead Space and Alien

Sleeping Dogs and Infernal Affairs/The Departed
