GOG games seem to add a new desktop icon every time the game is updated. Is there any reason to use the newly created icon and is there a way to stop GOG (Galaxy?) from creating a new icon with each update?
GOG Galaxy shortcuts are the WORST invention ever! Not only I specifically set up to not create them, but they are incorrect and designed to run the game through an optional Galaxy client. It always creates one upon new game installation, which I delete at once and replace with proper shortcut from game folder, it always has naming like "Launch [game name]".

Anyway I never had troubles with newly created shortcuts after game update, see attached and change your settings accordingly.

That's cool because I have the shortcut option unchecked and it's still doing it...
No idea. I would try to log out / log in, check the Shortcut option then exit, then uncheck it again. Make sure that every time you exit the client there is no active Galaxy task in Task Manager (e.g. Galaxy Communications).
Perhaps GOG messed something in latest GOG Galaxy version, mine is a special one since I'm still on Windows 7 (2.037.384 - Beta).

If nothing works you may always submit a ticket to tech. support or first try at Galaxy forum, maybe users there could help.

I bet they wanted to look cool like the other store guys and link to their store client.
At least it should respect your settings.
