(edit: might be weird but maybe GOG could work in special branding (or sub-branding?) for releases like these, like GIG - GOG-Improved Game. A GOG GIG :P)

I realize the title is vague, but I was curious what games primarily with extra legal hurdles, and/or perhaps technical challenges greater than what GOG normally has to do deal with, you'd like to see GOG tackle and re-release. (Or, even create a new improved version of games already on the store, and maybe sell as a new edition at a somewhat higher price but with nice discounts for those who already own the game; something like that)

(I can imagine somebody wanting GOG to add Achievements to all games here; I of course disagree with that view but I'm not interested in arguing over it)

:)

Personally, off the top of my head, I'd like to see the following:

* Area 51 (Midway's 2005 FPS) - I know it's freeware via US Army but I'd still pay to support a GOG release (assuming a "reasonable" price). I can imagine the voice acting might be legally challenging as voice actors included David Duchovny and Marilyn Manson.

* Toy Story 2 Action Game - this may just be an issue of getting Disney to care, or maybe there are technical issues GOG could fix. In any case, another licensed game I'd pay to support a re-release of.

* Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 - I assume sports and racing games are the hardest to bring back because of all the licensing involved (in the case of racing games, cars and songs mainly), but I'd pay decent money to support these coming back. Maybe $20-30 bundle packs (versus selling each game by itself) if that's simply what would be required to make enough to bring them back. shrug

edit: wouldn't hurt to include wishlist entries or searches ;)

Mortal Kombat: Komplete Kollection (MK9) - WB have been decent at bringing games here for the most part, this was DE-listed a little while ago, many believe it was due the Freddy Kruegar though some say other reasons are at play.

Wolfenstein from Activision

No One Lives Forever

Spec Ops: The Line.

CAll of Juarez: The Cartel: Not a great game (some would say not a good game) but would be nice for completiionist purposes and preservation.
Interstate 76. (It needs another pass. Probably a source port.)

Creatures: The Exodus Years. (This needs several fixes; OpenC2E is progressing too slowly.)

Mechwarrior IV. https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/mechwarrior_4_mercenaries_1

Operation: Inner Space. https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/operation_inner_space (Especially as I have a feeling the Inner Space website might be going offline soon; last updated copyright was in 2022.)

More than anything, i'd want all High Moon Studios licensed games, which means Deadpool and the two Transformers Cybertron games

Additionally I'd love to see:

Transformers: Devastation
Mortak Kombat 9
No One Lives Forever
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
Need for Speed 2 & 3

Almost 700 votes. I can almost see GOG accepting it / unrejecting it, and I think Techland owns it all now so no legal issues, but I suspect they're basically "ashamed" of it. :P (Otherwise I assume it would have remained on Steam.)

It needs 3dfx Glide (or rather nGlide), to be fair. The software renderer is broken on modern systems. But otherwise it's fine. While we're on the topic of Techland, where the heck are Chrome & Chrome: SpecForce? I loved those games with all their jank. They even run reasonably well on modern systems - I've since found a retail copy of Chrome.

Not sure about their current ownership or legal situation, but here go my choices:

No One Lives Forever
Magic and Mayhem
Aurora Watching
Infernal
Mechwarrior 1-3

Mafia 1, the original version.

IMO GOG selling a butchered version of that game, the butchering of which completely ruins the experience, is extremely shameful on GOG's part.

GOG never should have agreed to do that.

And the fact that they did so, and also the fact they knowingly continue to sell that butchered version, completely contradicts & makes a joke out of their self-proclaimed "mission" to "preserve games."

If GOG really cared about "preserving games," they would not sell butchered versions of games, like they do with Mafia 1.

Likewise also for the censored Fallout games, of which GOG also happily sells butchered versions and makes zero effort to preserve the original real versions.
The expansions for Dungeon Siege 1 and 2.

Does the nGlide/3Dfx version manage to run at the right framerate and not explode?

I honestly don't know, whether there are some extra (technical and/or legal) challenges (besides the usual) involved with these games, but after seeing your examples, I'd like to add:

- Need for Speed: Shift
and
- Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed

Well, the Ford Motor Company might say no, and the licenced music might be another issue.

Yes, and it also doesn't break car physics like the software renderer does.

You can just use nGlide with the GOG version of course. Not sure why they don't bundle it in the first place.
