Natural Disaster won 2-1 against the Anti-Anemia Alliance.

Weird, weird, weird match. Lots of actions failing that could reasonably be expected to succeed - iipp0 rolled two double-skulls in a row with a player who had Block ... I rolled two skulls in a row, two critical dodges on players with the Dodgw skill failed, lots of GFI knockdowns ... what's taking the cake though is that iipp0 somehow lost an entire turn when I threw my fireball. My turn had ended in a bad situation for me, I threw a fireball at iipp0's ball carrier, three players went down, and somehow this caused an immediate turnover for iipp0 who couldn't even do anything. Is that in the rules, or did we encounter a bug?

Iipp0 could have scored an equalizer in the last turn with a risky move, and it nearly succeeded ... but only nearly. Which opened me a chance to score the 3-1, which nearly succeeded ... but only nearly.

During the last turn, we talked about how odd this match had been, and that at least no one had died. Then he blocked Orlando Bloom, who broke his neck (the apo just broke it again of course), and then one of thrills _killed_ himself while trying to block Legolas Leafblower.

Of course, both of us got 20,000 gold in earnings.

As I said, weird game. Did anyone watch? What were your impressions?

Edit: Replay is here.

Vamps vs Woodies -> 2-1 for the Woodies

Frustrating match as i expected, much more frustrating - however not for the reason i thought (strip ball wardancers and my lack of sure hands) - but rather for bugs like one of my turns just being skipped after a fireball which MNG'd thrall and would have given my vamp -ST (apo offered death, regen saved!).

That was weird. But i just didnt want rematch, feel very bad for various RL reasons and i doubt my mood would have gotten any better.

Anyhow, very "clean" match. I think i caused 2 CAS, of which one on turn 16 and suffered 2 CAS (mng thrall, vampire -ST that regened) + dead thrall on last turn. I think i cause quite few stuns, but that was pretty much it. Also my bloodlust didnt result in a single thrall CAS which one very rare.

I had lots of trouble with clock and those 00:00 second commands: trying to make vamp feed on the thrall next to him but being thrown out, vamps not using pro and suffering turnover etc. I just hate that crap. I really wish the time started making noise at 30s or something like that + it gave you extra 10s to click the BL feed/pro/team reroll option when there is no time on the clock - as the damn walking animations seem to take like 15s at times and cant be skipped.

*fuming*

Anyways, Psyringe played good match - i had chance at 2-2 on turn 15, but despite pro working my vamp could be bothered with completing 3+ pass and that was that.

My Half Moon Bombers lost to Moggrym's Forest Dwellers: 1-0.

The first half was very much in my favour, as I received and was able to utilise my Looney well. Then, on turn five or six, I made a break for it with my ball-carrier gobbo, and ended up being stopped by Moggrym's pro Elves.

The second half went much the same way, as I was able to get the ball away from the Elves fairly early on, and spend a large part of the second half slowly moving it up field. Again, I made a break for it, and left my ball carrier a little too open. Things went down-hill from there, and Moggrym manage to score.

I won't tell you how, as I think it would be better if you see it for yourselves .
And for my third game against a much higher TV team, I lost again to EA's dark elves 0-2.

I was pretty lucky on armor and injury rolls and managed to take out several of EA's players, but I made a mistake exposing my ball carrier in the first half which led to a counterattack by EA who scored on turn 8.
Stopping his offense with an agi 6 passer and agi 5 receiver proved impossible even with the rain, so he scored again on turn 10.

This time, the inducements worked pretty well, with both star players causing casualties, as well as the wizard and halfling master chef stealing 3 rerolls. It still wasn't enough, unfortunately.

I got 50k so I'll be able to replace my lost flesh golem, but the MVP went to a merc for the 3rd time in a row, so I've gotten a grand total of 5 SPP in 3 matches so far.

Okay, some further analysis about the (apparent) bug that cost iipp0 a turn in our match. Please, if someone knows the rules or knows about such a bug, offer your opinions as well.

1. What happened?

- One of iipp0's players had the ball.
- I ended my turn with a turnover (failed leap).
- I decided to throw a fireball on the ballcarrier
- The ballcarrier and 2 more off iipp0's players were knocked down.
- The ball scattered to an unoccupied tile.
- iipp0 immediately suffered a turnover before he could take any action.
- The reason for the turnover (as stated in the in-game log) was "Knocked Down".

I played on, since I didn't know whether or not that turnover was supposed to happen (I think this was the second time I ever used a wizard in Blood Bowl, so I don't know the wizard rules very well), but I offered iipp0 a rematch in case that this was a bug. Iipp0 (kudos for great sportsmanship!) declined the offer, citing that something else might go wrong in a rematch as well. I think so too, though in hindsight I think I could have handled that situation better (see below).

2. What do the rules say?

The rules for fireballs are detailed on page 70 of the Competition Rulebook:

Wizards may only cast spells at the beginning of his own turn before any player performs an Action or immediately after his own team's turn has ended even if it ended with a turnover.

If a player on the moving team is Knocked Down by a fireball, then the moving team does not suffer a turnover unless the player was carrying the ball at the time.

These rules are actually not 100% clear. I did throw the fireball "after my turn had ended". However, it is my understanding that iipp0's turn had not started yet, so that we were in an inter-turn phase. Therefore, iipp0's team was not the "moving team", and therefore, he should not have suffered a turnover when his player lost the ball. Is my understanding correct?

3. Why did the game give iipp0 a turnover?

That is not clear to me. I think it is a bug - the game may have thought that it was iipp0's turn already when his player lost the ball, so it processed a turnover.

When I watched the replay, I noticed that the fireball was displayed only after iipp0's turn had already begun for a few seconds. I _was_ very late when I threw the fireball: I was first unsure whether or not I should use it, and then struggled with the interface to actually do so. I had, at maximum, one second left on the timer when I threw it. Perhaps there's a race condition somewhere in the code and the fireball may indeed end up being thrown _after_ the opponent's turn has already begun.

I found other explanations being discussed in a thread at BBTactics.
The coaches there are talking about aiming at the ball carrier (which I did), but also about the ball scattering to another player of that team (which did not happen in our match, the ball scattered to an unoccupied tile).

4. What would have been the best way to deal with this situation?

Well, obviously, one option is always to say "That's Blood Bowl" and move on. Or to offer a rematch, like I did. But in hindsight, I think the best option would have been to simply not play my turn. Getting two turns in a row was a huge advantage for me, led to my first touchdown, and (due to the timing) screwed up iipp0's entire first half. Had I just clicked "End turn" after iipp0's turnover, then one of us would still have had a disadvantage from the whole event (specifically, the one who would control the ball by the end of the first half, since he would have one less turn to score), but by no means would the effect have been as grave.

5. What can be done to prevent this bug?

That's hard to say exactly, since we don't know what's exactly causing it. I would suggest to not wait until the last second when throwing a fireball at the opponent's ball carrier after one's own turn has ended. I know I'll try to be quicker next time.

Comments are welcome. There's no conflict and nothing left to decide (iipp0 and I just took the event as one of Blood Bowl's quirks, and someone - I guess iipp0 himself - validated the match already), but it is my impression that iipp0 got shafted in that event, so I'm interested in clearing it up, in order to prevent it from happening again.

the issue with the fireball(wizzard) and lost turn is a bug

sometimes it is possible to use wizz even after the time run out and if you are able to, than dropping the ball will cause turnover :(
I'm gonna have to forfeit this match. I've had a personal tragedy that I need to deal with, if you have anyone on a waiting list to come in and take over that might be a good thing. I'm sorry if this is an inconvience to you all, but I'm just finding that I really don't want to play any games right now.

Always keep in mind that it's a game, and no matter what real life is far more important.

I wish you the best of luck dealing with this.

If a player on the moving team is Knocked Down by a fireball, then the moving team does not suffer a turnover unless the player was carrying the ball at the time.
So you mean that this should only affect the wizard's team when the wizard is used at the beginning of their own turn?
And not the opposing team when the wizard is used at the beginning of their turn?

Sorry to hear that. I've been there, but I actually found some refuge in gaming (not in multiplayer of course, because I didn't really want to socialize with anyone).

Yes, that's how I understood the intended meaning of those rules. Though the wording is not very clear either way.
As CSPVG already said, we had our match yesterday. I must say I really struggled agains a goblin team.
I also made a few stupid errors.

I feel like CSPVG was cheated of a well deserved victory when Nuffle tossed that ball next to my catcher in the back during the last rounds. I only had to pick it up and score a TD. A non deserved victory.
