I worked on the Steam GA last summer on finkleroy's Discord channel. At first we had 2 people running it, one for the old keys, and me for the new ones (over 1000 keys). After the first month, I had to have 2 more people helping me (don't know if they wish to remain anonymous) to get it over with, and in the last month, we added another one. We also had to come up with a system that would be fair for everyone (timezones, keys dispensed). And we were juggling a lot of lists, which we had to optimize to get things done more efficiently.

The person responsible for the old keys also had to have 2+ people helping out. Don't know the details on that side.

It's a lot of work. And I personally wasn't getting anything from the list, so, it was just a favor helping finkleroy out. So, if you wanna do it, just know that it will take up a lot of your time.

The new month of December has started and this will most likely be the last month I implement the Starred Category rule. I'm going to try a new rule at the beginning of the new year. An annual 4 game limit. You still get your 1 game per month but you can only do that now 4 out of 12 months. I believe this rule may make people think before they ask for a game on the list and only ask for games they truly want to play instead of folks just asking for a game just to fulfill their quota for the month. Regardless I believe a lot more games will be on the list with this new rule. Thoughts?

Not really a big deal, but how about 6 annually? I think 4's a bit too low.

There's room to move the number around. Nothing is set in stone yet. I picked 4 because I looked at my own history asking for games from the CG and saw I never went over 3 per year. So I thought 4 seemed fair but by all means I'm open to hearing what others think is a fair number or if annual limits are off the table entirely.

I support your idea, Benkii. I believe the implementation of this new rule will not only make users think twice before asking for a game but also will increase the chances of more people getting a giveaway. If you were to ask me, I'd say an annual 3 game limit would be even more adequate due to the fact that GOG's community and TCG thread's participants are literally planetary. The more different people are able to get a gift the better. At the end of the day, it's not about how many games one wins as it is about having fun playing something one really enjoys.

Sounds good to me. I was never a fan of "starred games" idea in the first place, and then even less when I found your choices for this category rather questionable, so I'm glad it's going away.

4 free games a year, on the other hand, is still plenty if those are titles you really care for. 6 realistically won't change anything because there's 6 or less months a year when there are many games offered to begin with, so this limit would be mostly theoretical because you'd be hard pressed to ever reach it.

Any specific reason why you are cancelling the starred category? I don't see it clashing with the new four-a-year rule (which I have no problem with).

Sounds good but I guess daggered (or games from GOG giveways for that matter) should not count to the actual limit, there's too many keys going to waste otherwise.

I think this is a good idea. 4 per year seems a good balance as that way more people will be in with a chance to get a game.

I strongly dislike this proposed rule. Yearly limits are intended to deter excessive requesters, but I do not think we currently have that problem - rather, currently we simply do not have many donations.

I would be mostly ok with having a 4-game annual limit of "starred games" since those have currently been few, but a 4-game limit across all games seems quite limiting.

In recent months I have missed out on some game offerings that have been available because others asked for them first; if I additionally had to judge an uncertainty of what may be available in the future, it becomes really difficult to judge what to ask for and when to wait.

I certainly agree people should only request games they really want, but even among those there may reasonably be different preferences.
