Oh, you mean the one Internet troll who sent a series of 10 disturbing tweets with perfect spelling and capitalization over a 3 minute period of time who happened to also call her "beautiful and sexy". And never once mentioned "games" or "gaming" in any of the tweets?

And for that, "game journalists" go out of their way to blame "gaming culture" and all male gamers for that one person and the threats with that series of articles. Of course the FBI conclusion that came out was that this, as with most things Gamergate, was the result of an internet troll with no evidence it was even connected to Gamergate or "Quinnspiracy" at the time. But let's not listen to experts at all, right?

One person is also apparently all "gamers" harassing, when we have no idea whether this person is just a garden variety Internet troll trying to get a rise from a public figure. For that, all gamers, are now suspects....

If you want to provide any real proof, go ahead...but of course we just have to believe you because you said so...

I have to say that I'm not mad anymore, I'm still dissapointed however. At least GoG is trying to be consumer friendly with the refund move for NMS.
I keep going on about this but in my eyes RWS has been treated unfairly, the PR team did their thing yet they didn't mention them once directly (to my knowledge at least).
I don't think you can sweep them under the rug after the apology, in fact, I think they do deserve some kind of apology themselves. Has anyone made a comment on the matter?

I mean, they promoted the game with a tweet, and then they deleted it and made these associations about the content of the promotional material, there is no way this didn't reflect poorly on RWS, they are in the bussiness of making controversial games, but I don't think they ever abused anyone nor I think they ever condoned any kind of abuse.
Maybe I'm wrong and things are somehow fine behind the scenes, maybe I'm just spinning my wheels still thinking about this stuff, but come on, in my eyes their only crime is to prioritize one storefront over the other with their updates.

amok: it is just to show that both "sides" where just as bad as each other. The best approach in all this mess is to ignore both sides of the arguments, make fun of the extremist on both sides, and just play the games you like to play
Yeah, that would be nice. Except due to those "sides" efforts (both direct and the whole atmosphere of paranoia) many games are easily banned for "propaganda" of sexism, racism, narcotics, etc.

Your efforts will be in vain. People like him found their purpose in life in harrassing and calling out people who don't agree with their worldview. They see themseves as underdog fighters for justice and protectors of all opressed. Anything and anyone contradicting that narrative is not allowed to exist.

Of course. Haven't you heard about "We happy few"? There were also many japanise games that were censored for supposedly derogatory attitude towards women (though this practice existed even before GamerGate).

You mean this game?
How is it banned? Go ahead and preorder it, if you want!

It's banned in Australia.

What has that got to do with "Gamers are dead" articles or Gamersgate sides? Risen, the Witcher 2 and Marc Eckō's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure are banned in Australia too, the last one for glorifying graffiti. Not really relevant to the topic at hand.

Australian politics used gamer gate as proof that certain games are bad and should be banned.

wasn't games banned in Australia before GG?

WHF was banned there due to the portrayal of drugs and drug abuse, which is against the law there.

Long before then. I remember watching G4/Tech TV's X-Play in the early 2000's and hearing about Postal 2 being banned from sale there. I think GTA3 and the rest of the series as well.

Wow, that article shows that they'd been banning some games even earlier than I thought.
This thread still going? Has the PR rep of GOG explained why he felt more important to apologize to and discuss the issue with nongamers who want games banned instead of the userbase of GOG? Its frankly quite worrying if GOG believes people who hate games are more important people to please than their own customers.

Yes. And Anita Sarkeesian videos were before GG. Just like various censorship and call for political correctness were before GG. Because GamerGate was a reaction to all these things and game journalists aiding them, not some group of Nazi who decided to go and harrass women out of nowhere (like GG is usually presented in the media).

Australia has banned games and media since... welll... since they started with classifications. games like Dreamweb, Phantasmagoria, Manhunt and so on.
