GoG you ARE force people to use galaxy

Amount of midi-chlorians in GOG staffs must be too high.

I thought I have to signed in to galaxy anytime I wanted to play a game (like steam) - and I didn't want that. As it seems I lacked some information there. I apologize. Yes I had no issue using torrrent because it can be deleted after using it and now I know that it's the same with galaxy and I'm really happy about that!

As for my browser: I never experienced any problem like this before. I even checked my browser but there was no problem. Just when I tried to download from GoG. Maybe I missed something though if it works for others.

I don;t know if this matter but about six months ago I tried to download Surgeon Sim Deluxe through my browser because there is no download link for the downloader and I refuse to use Galaxy. Didn't work.

GOG told me there was nothing they could really do about it but they were working on it, which I kind of took as a blow off, but last night out of boredom I tried again and it worked.

I guess someone is doing something over there. :P

Now all I need to do is figure out why I downloaded SS Deluxe.

Did you try using a download manager when downloading those huge files in the browser?

I think I would use Galaxy, if it allowed installers+bonus management and customizable mass update.
Aren't mods\plugins possible for it, yet?

You can manage those in the options.

Do you mean that I can do something like:
- mass download installers to custom folders on a removable hdd.
- mass download+extract bonuses to custom folders on a removable hdd.
- install some games from them, without additional downloads.
- in the future, mass update only the installers or bonuses that have been changed on Gog.

I doubt that they have implemented anything like this..

I think you tipped your hat there Judas. It was pretty obvious since the day 1 beta I tried that the app was embedding a browser. ;)

Because a) you saw a challenge; and b) because you could.
Would you pay for something which did?

The Deluxe edition does tend to have smoother controls. It's still tough but not as bad.

It's not really a functioning client for larger games. For most of the games that works fine, but for some of the behemoth downloads that GOG provides, the browser just doesn't cut it at all.

Two things I want to say to you:

1. I don't share your experience. I don't use Galaxy, and I haven't had failed GOG installer downloads for ages. Nowadays I mostly use the gogrepo.py tool, but to my understanding it uses the same commands as downloading with a web browser.

2. You said yourself that your Riddick download failed also with the legacy GOG downloader... so why do you want GOG to keep supporting it? When I had problems downloading GOG games (they would get corrupted quite often, that was when I tried to download them in Thailand over a shitty mobile internet connection)... it was that same Downloader which brought those corrupted downloads to me.

So whatever on-the-fly integrity checking there is with the legacy Downloader, it seems far from perfect.

Come to think of it, I am not even convinced using Galaxy would necessarily bring you uncorrupted downloads either, if you are having such problems often. Just a hunch. Either there is something seriously wrong with your internet connection (like was for me with a slow mobile GPRS connection in Thailand), or could even your hard drive be breaking up, corrupting stuff you download?

That said, I wouldn't say no to some kind of p2p client that allowed downloading games from GOG, as to my experience they have the best success rate providing uncorrupted downloads for some reason, even over shitty slow connections. They just seem to catch faulty downloads actively, and re-download the corrupted parts automatically.
