So since i was worried about obsidian rpgs coming to gog in the future because of microsoft,it seems they arent that paranoid about drm at all.I think a big part of it is because of gamepass since its very cheap to play a dozens of games these days.Psychonauts 2 is coming to gog which is an official published microsoft game.Good news in moving forward i would say.The future of gaming is all about options not limitations
Someone mentioned Psychonauts 2 was crowdfunded on Fig, that might be the reason its released on muötiple platforms.

Microsoft is still the publisher so they decide where it gets released

That's exactly the reason. It's the same situation as Wasteland 3.

No microsoft wasnt the publisher there
Deep Silver published Wasteland 3 however keep in mind that MS did indeed invest money in the development of W3 although a bit later in development as InXile was acquired after the FIG campaign.

I will still remain cautious and always expect the worst as publishers are as fickle as they come, most things they do never make much sense from an observers standpoint so i guess if i had internal information (which i don't) it would be easier to predict the future.

Sure asuming the worst is a legit thought in todays gaming mentality but 2 things are fact microsoft is the publisher and they decide where the game got released and the game will be drm free so fingers crossed for avowed

For future projects/games. Not a game that was in development prior to the takeover. Double Fine probably has signed contracts prior to the acquisition, I'm no legal expert, but I'd say those aren't void now that Double Fine belongs to Microsoft.

I could be wrong though, who nows.

True, but MSFT wants to respect past contracts, signed before their purchases.

Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo are exclusive to PS5, but now they're MSFT IPs after the Bethesda acquisition. However, they'll be honouring those exclusivity deals, even though they could probably cancel those contracts (albeit they would have to pay Sony for it, of course).

Not exactly the same situation, but it's to just say that deals made in the past are not being undone by MSFT.

One thing that's useful to know, Psychonauts 2 was never promised to arrive on GOG but they would look into it but given Double Fines history and the fact the first game is here it was fairly likely, what was promised however was a drm free version specifically through Itch-io.

Still i'm happy it's here for more options.

I went to the Fig campaign page and it lists GOG as a supported platform. Don't know if it was there from the beginning or is a recent addition.

That is very recent, in fact when the crowdfunding released and up to a month or two ago that did not exist and FAQ only listed Itch as promised and a possible GOG release.

Yeah, but seems that a GOG release was always on their mind. Maybe they were just waiting for a communication on GOG's part and they might got it recently so they updated it.

Without a doubt, i think Tim always had a GOG release planned in the back of his mind but the takeway here is that nothing where set in stone and finalised until recently and long after the acqusition so MS had nothing they where expected to uphold in this case.

Still i would not take this as evidence of future releases even though i would like to see future Obsidian, InXile, Double Fine and Ninja Theory releases here.

For sure. Like I said in this other thread, I'd temper my expectations regarding MSFT future releases here.
