Hey guys! I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself to you all as I’ll be seeing you around a lot! I’m the newest member of the GOG.com community team. As you’d expect, that means you’ll be seeing me around the forums on a daily basis!

First thing I’d like to say is do not be afraid to approach me, we’re all here due to a shared love of video games, myself included. As members of the community, I’m keen to hear your input on the current state of the forums. What can be improved, what should be removed, ideas for the future. This place is yours just as much as it is ours, only together can it flourish!

A little about myself -

I’m originally from ’sunny’ England and grew up on a steady diet of Half-Life mods and Blizzard games. I have a passion for older titles, forgotten gems and cult classics, which led me to GOG.com in the first place! Aside from video games, I have a soft spot for trashy horror and action films no one ever rented at the VHS store.

I look forward to talking to you all! If you have any questions, or as mentioned before, suggestions, feel free to hit me up!

kohlrak: Fair enough. Can we get some clarity on what is and is not OK for users to say involving politics as well as towards each other in the form of personal attacks?

Sorry for being direct, but you could not have come at a more interesting time.
Hey Kohlrak

Political chat can be a rather divisive topic no matter what corner of the internet you find yourself. All that is required is some basic manners, respect, and a calm head. The topic will naturally arise from time to time, this we understand, but please remain respectful.

As for personal attacks. This is again a topic we'd ask you to apply respect and common decency towards. Treat the forums in the same way you'd treat meeting a friend or talking to a colleague. If disagreements turn nasty, I will step in to calm things down. Civilised conversation is encouraged, we're all here through a shared passion, let's not forget this!

Hope that clears things up for you!

ZFR: If a very tall person stands on tram tracks and holds the electrical wires with his hands, will he start moving forward like a tram?
Well, that depends if they're wearing rubber-soled shoes.

phaolo: Hello.
Are you the new community manager, by chance?
If so, prepare your armor, shield and.. hammer :P
I left them in England, all I have now is a chainsaw and a pile of discount noodles.

drmike: Well since you ask, what's being done to ensure GoG follows their own User Agreement, specifically section 20 about dispute resolution? Currently you have to open a support ticket to get a staff member to pay attention to GoG legal inbox when you raise the issue about support tickets not getting resolved.

What's being done about accessibility issues with the forum layout? For those of us with vision issues, the fix currently is to turn off css here in the forums. Unfortunately the thread title block at the top of each thread is black text on a solid black background. This has been reported a few times but with no acknowledgement.

What's being done with the unsecure New Post popup?
Well gosh, give the man a minute – he just got here. <_<

tinyE: Gotta say I love the avatar. XD

Let's hope things go a little more peacefully than the last time we all saw ED-209. XD

Wait, you just changed it. :-(
Give it time, ED-209 will return ;)

Is that avatar a sign of things to come? ;)
If i answered that i'd have to post spoilers ;)

*quickly cobbles together a set made from tape and papers* I HAVE THE POWEEEEEEEERRRRR!!!

Breja: I do hope this will finally bring some peace and order here, since the place has become almost unbearable of late, there's been so much hate, insults, sexism and bullying. It would be nice to be able to have a conversation about a movie or a game without it immediately turning into a flamewar about politics.
You have my word there will be an active effort to improve things and build a better experience for everyone.

Caesar.: Since you asked, you shall receive feedback! For me, the most underrated part of the forums are the game-specific subforums. There are a lot of great topics there, but sadly low participation. I think a permanent link from each game store page to their own subforums, and the ability to see what game forums recently had new posts, would help a bit. In other words, please take a look at:
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/link_to_relative_game_subforum_in_the_store_gamecard_page
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/option_to_sort_forums_by_last_post_instead_of_alphabetically

I understand your role is not a technical one, and maybe you will be more focused on the General discusions, so you might not be the one in charge of these. But anything that encourages participation in the game-specific forums would be great.
Hey Caesar

I can for sure pass that feedback on to the relevant people. Adding that feature myself may result in fires, panic and a jobless community manager :P

Alaric.us: Hello, there!

It'll be good to have a community manager who is both present and active. The last one didn't last but hopefully you will. Personally I'm looking forward to the uniform application of the rules, where infractions are handled based on what they are, not on who committed them.

Either way, where in England are you from, I wonder if I've been there. Oh, and what Blizzard games are you playing these days? I'm in the beta of BfA right now and it's shaping up rather nicely.
I'm from the North East!, Newcastle to be exact. Kinda like Winterfell from Game of Thrones (we even have a wall) but without as many decapitations.

I'm only playing Diablo 2 at the moment (still) but I am very much looking forward to going back to war against the Alliance when Battle for Azeroth launches...and then all the fun grinding it will surely bring!

Alaric.us: Nope, never been there. =)

Oh man, you are the Horde? How disappointing! Oh well. The Alliance has the best zone ever this expansion, you'll love it when you see it. And I gotta say Diablo II is one of my least favorite Blizzard games. I remember being so disappointed.

Did you hear the rumors about a new Diablo game, though? Would be nice if they took some pointers from Path of Exile and Grim Dawn, but I'm curious either way.
It's a nice city, mostly!

I started on the Alliance back upon release but found my home in the Horde! Disappointed!? Okay, I feel that's worth a ban ;)

I saw the news! i'm curious but not too hyped, Diablo 3 didn't quite do it for me i'm afraid!

Alaric.us: What about HotS? You play that? I switched to it some years ago even though I worked on (though, not in programming capacity) and played Dota 2 for 4 years. To me HotS is a better game, though I play very much on and off. Same as WoW really.

What we REALLY need, though, are fully remastered Warcraft 1 and 2. Especially 2.
I indeed did play HOTS! played since beta but found myself wanting a break lately. It feels like Blizzard isn't too sure what to do with the game if I'm honest. I still enjoy it though, very much a more quick and fun moba compared to others on the market.

As for remasterings, give me a sweet full set of Warcraft 2 with the editing tools and hell yeah!

MarkoH01: Welcome to the GOG community.

In general we are nice people here (I still think this community is one of the best) but be prepared that it also won't always be easy since several people are disappointed in GOG for several reasons - some unfortunately even have already left GOG. I still think GOG is great but I am also well aware that several things would need finxing or improving.

You asked about the forum so simple feedback:
Hyperlinks are still (since several months) often completely broken. It's also impossible to use special characters like ä,ö,ü - which are quite common in German - inside hyperlinks. So my first wish would be that GOG would fix these finally.

Another issue here in the GOG foum sometimes is the use of extremely bad language (I am talking about racist insults and such) which sometimes do go unpunished. I am not talking about calling someone "idiot" but sometimnes discussions can get to extremes including language. I know that GOGs policy in general is free speech and I appreciate this very much. However imo there should be boundaries and people who cross those should be punished to keep this an enjoyable forum.

That#s all that is on my mind for now. Again, welcome and enjoy :)
Hey Marko, thanks for expressing your concerns. I can say now with 100% confidence racism will not be tolerated. If a user is found saying anything of the sort there will be swift consequences.

Swearing, as long as it's not used every few words will find itself on the wrong end of moderation too. That does not mean an F-bomb here and there will get you banned, just don't swear every couple of words!

Thank you for the welcome and I hope I cleared up some things for yourself and others :)
