TheMonkofDestiny: Your numbers are off there. There's 9 DLC characters including the recent announcements - only 4 of which are guest characters and there's 25 characters in the game otherwise.

The guest characters don't outnumber the original characters overall either, even cumulatively across the "reboot" titles since 9.

I suppose you could make the argument that they could wipe any old and familiar faces out of the roster entirely but that's not how established fighting game franchises operate.

NuffCatnip: Wait, you're right, they are wrong. Took those numbers from a wikia, crap. :/
According to mortalkombat.com there are 24 characters in the roster. 2 of those (Frost and Shao Khan) have to be bought separately though. At least on Steam Frost and Shao Khan are not included in the standard edition.
Then there's 9 Kombat Pack/ expansion characters.

The guest characters don't outnumber established characters, that's true, but I still think 4 of them are way too many. 1 or 2 would be okay, but 4 is a few too many. I know that they sell, but to me it just feels wrong.
You unlock Frost on chapter 4 of the main campaign. Though you can buy her. Shao Kahn came free for those how pre-ordered it, but other than that, has to be bought separately. If MKX's Goro is any reference, Shao Kahn will probably be formally included as an extra in the eventual Kombat Pack 2.

I have ambivalent feelings about guest chars. As much as I enjoyed the Predator in X, I'd rather have more classic chars in the game than the guests. And I do like Spawn, Terminator and Robocop as well.

I think Doomguy would be a nice addition as well.

Thanks for the info, didn't know about that! :)
Yeah, while guest characters are cool (I mean I LOVE Spawn and the Terminator (first 2 movies) franchises) they take away character slots that should go to MK characters (my oppinion).

Guest characters are dangerous for a game's longevity if implemented poorly.

I'm told that Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition was pulled from Steam after one of the licenses for a guest character expired.

That being said, guest characters as DLC (paid or otherwise) would allow the game to survive the loss of the guest.

TheMonkofDestiny: A Marvel character. Super unlikely to happen outside of some obscene licensing deal though. Don't really care who it would be - Dazzler, Squirrel Girl, H.E.R.B.I.E., etc.
I suppose the Marvel vs Capcom series and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe are poor consolations. Does anyone know of a recent Disney/WB joint venture that could suggest mutual interest?

That's never been the officially stated reason. People just assume it to be the case.

MK vs. DC was canonical MK 8 and was really not good. Not even as a "so bad, it's good" type of thing. It should've been better, but just wasn't. Thankfully Injustice came to exist and righted that wrong.

The Marvel vs. Capcom games were good (2 is still one of my favorite games of all time) but once you get to Infinite that's where the ship sank. I'd love to see Capcom get that series back to something that's enjoyable to play, but after Infinite nosedived pretty bad, it's looking grim from an outside perspective.
