How about another round of GWENT?

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is now officially out on PC! The official launch follows the release of Homecoming — a massive update returning GWENT to its Witcher roots, as well as incorporating gamer feedback from throughout GWENT’s Public Beta. The update introduces a complete redesign of the game’s visuals, a brand new look for the boards and faction leaders, new gameplay mechanics and a new card type, as well as over 30 new cards and a revamped deck building system.

To celebrate GWENT coming out of Public Beta on PC, everyone who participated will receive a commemorative player title. Additionally, a special Launch Celebration Pack is available to all players for a limited time. Detailed information regarding the pack’s contents are available both in-game, as well as on playgwent.com. GWENT’s launch also marks the start of a new ranked play season, featuring Mahakam-themed rewards.

The out-of-beta version of GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is currently available only for PC and can be downloaded via GOG.COM.

I'm not talking about gameplay. I'm talking about push-to-the-explotational-f2p online service. Such as:
* 2 in-game GWENT: The Witcher Card Game Player Titles
* 2 in-game GWENT: The Witcher Card Game Player Avatars
* 5 premium kegs for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game
* Unlock 20 cards (standard versions) for use in GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and search for their exclusive premium versions during your travels in Thronebreaker.

Okay, I'm trying to like it. I want to like it, but so far i just do not. I loved the beta! I play on down time at work and sometimes I can play all day. Now I'm setting here and I really don't want to play. It is way too different than what I've been playing. Like when you play the Siren card and spawn Blue/Blood moon which would boost all of your beasts, or how ancient foglet would boost as long as fog was on the board. I am very, very disapointed.
I unlocked the alternate skin for Eredin through the reward book, and I can't equip it for some reason.

You have to do it manually every time. Also, it doesn't work if you are using a controller.

That's one of the biggest disappointments. Their previous themes/associations made sense and added flavor to the world. A Foglet without fog? What? An Ice giant without ice? It's not only disappointing but also kind of lazy. "Eh, just make it 7 strength and call it a day."

I'ts a huge let down. I used to play for hours. Today i played 3 rounds and stopped. I'll just keep playing in the witcher 3.
To echo others comments, not only is this version of Gwent much more focused on the micro-transaction model (selling us bundles to get different board skins? really?) but it seems CDPR has given up on trying to be distinct.

One of the reasons I enjoyed Gwent was because it was NOT Magic: The Gathering. Now with "Orders" and "Zeal" and Artifacts, etc. it feels even more like MTG than ever. Only thing it is missing is some form of "mana" equivalent.

On a positive note, the only change I think I do like so far is the card drawing system/limits/rounds. But otherwise...

Like, instead of all this, where's the option to just host games and have friends join? Like... what? I don't understand...

You know, you can just not play the Multiplayer? Right? You make it sound like it is hard to not play the MP or something. Seriously, you are turning flat ground into a mountain.

Lifthrasil: Yes, Thronebreaker is out and it's singleplayer, which is nice (apart from GOG doing their best to scare customers away). But actually I would like to be able to play a round of Gwent with friends in a LAN or direct connection. With a fixed, balanced set of cards, of course. Not this collectible-cards scam and definitely without Galaxy.
Great point. When games are made by other developers, I take it as a given that the developers will not include DRM-free multiplayer options like LAN, direct connection, even hotseat. Given that GOG has the FCKDRM.com initiative discussing the need for game preservation, what is the specific reason these options are left out for this game?

These are things I would not want on or associated with my account. They are that offensive.

Because it is a free to play online game? It is a game you are not actually buying.

Hmm, that is petty.

No, it's called being a responsible consumer. I want ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, even abstractly, to do with that HORRIBLE, people-exploiting, harmful-to-my-bretherin product called GWENT. I'm hoping they fix it (drop that "f2p" bullshit) before Cyberpunk 2077 comes out [if they don't, I won't be getting that]. If a <insert political belief you loathe> newspaper were being delivered to you and counting your household in its recipient and readership numbers for advertising revenue, you'd probably try to stop its delivery.

nah, it's petty. And you calling it "people exploiting product" is hyperbolic.

I come here for DRM-free gaming. Not that. What you dismiss as "petty", I would point out as principled and more needed than ever these days. For people into online-based gaming, clients, temporary servers, et cetera, it is no big deal if one goes down so the preservation aspect isn't really relevant. For folks like me who want to own what they purchase and have it available to them for life, a site like GOG is essentially the only acceptable option for me to buy PC games. Can you honestly blame folks like me for being worried GOG will succumb to the same temptations that countless other companies have already?

No hyperbole. It's crafted (with psychology) to prey on people's basal vulnerabilities and mental weaknesses (and illnesses). Anyway, I'm done engaging with a clear apologist like yourself who will excuse any behavior.

it is a free online game, you are not purchasing the game at all, therefore you are not purchasing a game with DRM. Free to play online games or any online game that uses provided servers are the only tings that are legitimate to have "DRM".
I find it unresonable to expect that everything has to be DRM free even when it is a 100% online game.

Maybe you should actually play it before making such hyperbolic statements as that.
