Finally, a proper application for VR technology!
Looks quite novel, but I don't think I would like not being in control.

Maighstir: And what would he piss? Gasoline?

omega64: Antifreeze?
This gets my vote! :D
I can see this becoming pretty tedious after the first 20 minutes. It's an entrely different thing to be in control of a 1st person game than it is to watch a couple of hours someone "playing" a first person game (or a movie in this case).

It's not like this is even the first time something like this has been tried in a full movie lenght. Even if you don't count found footage movies (which I detest), there's a couple of older B&W movies that have been filmed entirely from the pespective of the main character. The best attempt was some noir detective story in which the main character is seen only from reflections and so on. I don't recall it's name though.
Reminds me of one of those ten minute youtube videos that I say "looks really cool", but I still skip forward because it's not interesting enough to watch in its entirety.
For those who are interested in first person POV and virtual reality in cinema, you might want to check out Brainstorm (1983) or Strange Days (1995).

Maighstir: Either way, it's easy to set on fire.

Klumpen0815: Am I the only one having to think of the Farscape episode where Rygel is pissing explosives?
That was hilarious. :D

Strange Days is a good movie. I found it much better than I thought.

Edit: Wait I remember Brainstorm too. Only that I found it interesting though. I probably saw it a long time ago.

Strange Days is easily the best movie James Cameron has written. It's also the one he would have been a terrible match at directing, so it was a good thing he was married to Kathryn Bigelow at the time.
So... the despicable vomit cam has just leveled-up to ultra-vomit cam?

tinyE: I've been wanting to talk about this for a few weeks now, thank you for starting a thread.

My biggest concern at this point is, after 30 minutes, isn't the POV going to get a little annoying if not nauseating? :P

Smannesman: It'll be amazing on your Oculus Vive!
As in "You'll be amazed how many gallons of sick we can squeeze out of a single human being in just 90 minutes"...?

I'm not very familiar with what he has written but he sure did it right in Strange Days. :)

Both are good movies. If you remember Brainstorm, you should watch it again. It is directed by Douglas Trumbull, who has worked on such classics like 2001 and Blade Runner (he worked on their visual effects). He was also the visual effects consultant on Malick's Tree of Life.

Well those things don't cover your mouth right?
So you'll be fine.
The carpet might not, but you'll live.
Straight up, no frills action movies can work well, and can be very entertaining even when they are ridiculously silly (like Crank or Shoot em Up)

However, those movies still require charismatic leading actors for the audience to get behind. Some might argue that action films need charismatic actors EVEN MORE then other genres to help compensate for the craziness going on onscreen.

The film style is novel, but I worry that by taking away the leading character and placing the audience in their place, they might lose that necessary role, thus leading to a decrease in quality that the first person aspect can't replace.

I think this type of first person film style would work much better in a mystery or thriller movie then an action one, but we will see.

There's still Tim Roth.
