When I refer to a DorfLike, I mean something in the vein of Dwarf Fortress. You're an overseer, giving out commands in a managerial sim. Typically you don't have an endpoint and you make the goals yourself. IE, "Strike Microcline", "Stop Lava Flood", and "Deal with [REDACTED]".

I'd like to highlight Oxygen not included.

For a basic gist, you're the overseer of a colony of replicants.

Which basically boils down to making mines and managing gas flow in your base so people don't die of carbon dioxide.

I know it doesn't sound terribly exciting, but it's more like a zen garden. Take it at a gentle gradual pace. Enjoy it as one does your breath.
I guess Gnomoria is a DorfLike?
low rated
Isn't Dorf the really short character Tim Conway did all those skits and videos with?
Serious question, not trying to be a smart ass.
Did he get the name from from an actual word akin to what Darvond is talking about?

Yeah, but it mostly looks like a StoneSense made playable. :p
Rimworld would be next on the list.

Then maybe Factorio and They Are Billions

I love Builders, as I like to call them.
Be it controlling a single character like in Terraria or a village/society like in Dwarf Fortress.

That said. I did not like Oxygen Not Included though. At all.
It feels way too rushed, like you don't have time to do anything but follow a script and choosing the right tech or building the right things in a given order.
It didn't really explain the electrical wiring, fluids/gases pipes or how it interacts with your chars through beauty either.
Craft the world did that style better, earlier. Though without some of the mechanics ONI has though.
How it turns out will depend on future updates and the modding integration.

If you want a list of games in the Builder style, let me know.
Never heard the term DorfLike before...

I wasted my time going to college; I should have come here.

Of course, GOG didn't exist in 1994, but I could have waited.
About villages... might Banished fit the description?

I decided to do as the Germans do and make a compound word. How else would you describe something akin to Dwarf Fortress?

Okay, you beat me! But... what does "Klugscheisser" mean in english?
avatar
Darvond: DorfLike
If you're looking for a nice and quiet Kleinstadt, I'd recommend looking in the south of Germany. Kleinstädte in that region are very Dorf-like!

Hm, looks like GoG doesn`t want me to post anymore.
Weird, replying doesn`t work anymore, only normal posting. Gee, what did GoG do again?

@RealGeisterfahrer: Yeah, I thought something like this. Or is there another one, that english/american people use in such cases?
