It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

JDelekto: Well, it's the internet archive, I'm pretty sure they went over legalities. Do remember, you're playing these games through your Web Browser, not downloading them to run on your computer.

mistermumbles: As far as I recall, there was an easy trick to let your browser download the game files some while back. Not sure if it still works. So, yeah... *shrug*
Well, there's not really a trick to it. Basically what they did was use the LLVM toolchain to compile DOSBox using Emscripten. (Translated, it's basically a C++ compiler that ultimately generates JavaScript --the Unity game engine does the same thing with its scripts to create games that run using WebGL.)

Once you have a running copy of DOSBox (which is used to run all the old DOS games here on GOG, hand-tweaked to run on today's Operating Systems), the rest is just binary files being loaded and executed.

The games you load in your browser are probably cached locally or you can use a tool like Fiddler to intercept the file stream and save it somewhere locally. Easy peasy. :)

Maxvorstadt: Well, GoG has at least some games from the 80s, like the Ultima games, or Starflight.
Some, but imho not a representative sample. And, logically enough, p-focused on games released for PC-XT/AT etc, for which 1980-81 actually was a starting point

There is another reason for that : there isn't probably any depth to the market of early simulations or strategy games, both genre that were quite prevalent in the Late 70's early 80's ( the 80's were Microprose's, Sir Tech's , SSI's, SSG's golden years by the way ) . Imagine trying to sell Galactic Empire ( the TSR / Apple II title, not the later DOS one ) or Atlantic Patrol ( both mostly text games, with some very limited graphics -
Maybe if released in packages / bundles... There are probably exceptions, but none that jump to my eyes.

<span class="bold">Aztec</span> was also available for the Commodore 64.  It was a challenging game with numerous bugs.  ;-)

As a kid i wasnt bothered by static noise and crappy graphics, played all games, years later the motionsickness/photosensitivy started , thats when i stopped buying every game and started to select games very carefully.
Thats why i am unable to play 75% of the old games (3d/fpp flashes/lightning effects and more onscreen effects)
the good thing is: it saves me lots of money, the bad thing is 80% of the games arent playable for me, thats why i have to be very 'picky' when i buy games.
90% of the games on upcoming tab are a no buy for me, and >85% on steam is a no buy for me, thats why i stick to point and click and simple casual games.

Why don't you look at games that predate the use of 3D graphics?

By the way, do you have any issues with games like Shovel Knight?

Shovel Knight is a platformer as far as i know that includes jumping and usally paralax scrolling or moving backgrounds, its like a see saw effect up and down (super frog is one of those games, rayman, earthworm jim and many other platform games) see saw is motion so its unfortunately a no go.

Thats why i have all games that were made with AGS, i have all wadjet eye games, and anything that looks like it.
Most of my games are click and point, thats why i been hoping secret files (4 games) will arrive, some users say its an average game, but looking at what arrived lately in the new games section (deadlight at 20 euros) then secretfiles are way better compared to those games, yet they do release and sell these games, but secretfiles wont arrive, nelly cootaloot fowl fleet was also declined , i read it in a forum post.

So how come more average and quite expensive new games do arrive and keep coming in large quantities while most old games that do arrive are mainly fpp or 3d?
12 new titles or so at upcoming tab, i guess once these arrived there will be another 12 new games , of which i assume 90% will be more 3d and fpp.

I like gaming , i want to buy as much good games a possible, but if there arent any games i can play and i like to play
then i cant buy games, thats why i am buying mostly casual games (mostly HOG (hidden object games) for the past 6 years.

point and click i have (steam, once installed run without steam)

AlEmmo ( 2006) listprice 9.99 is a little to high its 1.49 now at summersales
i got the HOG game in the dubblepack at 99 cent for the game and 40 cent for the HOG

Alpha Polaris (2015) sales: 3.59 (listprice 11.99)
Belladonna (2015) summersales now at 69 cent ( listprice 6.99)
Demetrios (2016) (new) got it when it arrived : 8.99 (listprice 9.99) i played the demo
Face Noir (2013) got it at 4.99 (its 2.49 now at summersales) ( listprice 9.99)

Lost Chronicles of Zerzura (2014 ) got it at 1.99 4.99 now at summersales ( listprice 9.99)
Projector Face (new 2016 ) 4.99 listprice ( now 2.99 at summersales)

Undercover Missions: Operation Kursk K-141 (2015) listprice 19.99 which is way too much to try and see if its good
it has mixed reviews.

got it as 3.99 now at summersales . 3.99 is a decent price to take a risk.

Also have The next big thing and heavens hope , these games need the client work , i got them pretty cheap so its no big loss.
