Back in 08/09 I saw a PC Gamer article, they where still in closed beta so I waited, forgot about it, remembered it, and when I came back was surprised it was still going. I thought it was a subscription service for some reason but I read more about it and signed up.

dtgreene: I remember the time when gog.com closed down as a publicity stunt.

I also remember the gender selection when registering, which had a lot of choices; I chose Jedi.
Ah, the good old days, I chose Ninja :D
Once again, being relieved of my ignorance ruins a perfectly good joke. And that's why you should try not to learn too much, kids.
Totalbiscuit and Witcher...
Now that I think about it, the first time wasn't due to the Duke Nukem 3D giveaway, it was on Abandonia a very long time ago where some downloads suddenly became links to GoG.com.
I thought it's a shady site selling the old pirate copies of old games and since I didn't believe the devs got any money from it, I didn't even go there.
Much later after having lured here with free Duke3D (I already had several versions of Fallout on my shelf) I started buying the former abandonware after I realized, that their packages are very neatly configured, it's much more convenient this way and probably a good deed for art preservation. I stopped buying them again when I started using Linux and wondered why the DosBox packages were just for Windows. Now whenever I see something repackaged for Linux I usually buy it again if it's not too expensive. Since I don't buy regionally priced and only Linux ports, my shopping here has come to a halt with very few exceptions, which is a pity but you gotta stick to your side and mine is completely DRM-free (including the OS) and international (as in non-regional).

eDuke 32 webpage's banner.
Originally found GoG when searching old games on "Abandonware" sites. That was back in '09. I resisted joining for a long time, then I saw they had a working copy of Master of Magic and decided to buy it. I have nearly 400 games here now, and I avidly support the DRM-Free and fair treatment mantra of this company.
Also found it around the time of the beta, right before the 'full release' stunt (some months maybe? can't recall). I found it 'cause I wanted to play Arcanum and my old discs were no longer working, so yeah, Arcanum was the very first game I bought in Good Old Games.

Have sticked with it ever since! I prefer buying games here than in Steam, but not all of the stuff I like gets released here. Also, thanks to regional pricing it's now cheaper for me to buy stuff from Steam instead of GOG, which has made me even more discriminating when it comes to choosing what I buy here. However, I'm sticking around, 'cause I really like GOG overall, and when Galaxy finally comes out fully and I can play old games in multiplayer without a hitch, I'll be a very happy man.
Signed up in 2010 to buy duke nukem 3d and battle chess.
Had seen links to the site a few times before that but wasn't sure if was a dodgy or not.
But after looking for duke nukem again and seeing add link from 3d realms website i signed up straight away and made first purchases.
Read about it on another site that they were offering Broken Sword: Director's Cut for free.
That was back in sept 2011. Stayed and bought many games since then.
It was inevitable, my game shelf was getting overcrowded, I wanted to go digital like with my music and I hated needing an Internet connection to play/install single-player games.

I already knew I wanted something like GOG. Google got me there.

Master of Orion 2 was my first purchase. Already had the CD, but it was not longer playable without a lot of finicking, which I didn't mind avoiding for a couple of bucks.

from pre-ordering 'The Witcher 3' [I had the money at the time, so why not] I'm sure back in the late 90's there was an Abandoneware website called 'Good old games'

All the best
Interesting, I knew "tuck shop" more as a synonym for "sweets shop". Every day learning something new ;-)

amrit9037: Blame Torchlight.
Blame it on the Boogie!!! :-)

Well, I heard about GoG and that it has uncensored games (in Germany games are often heavyly censored) at the beginning of 2014. So I looked at this site and recognized that it accepts paysacards. Then I decided to make an account and saw that Ultima IV (and some other games) comes free with the registration. I was very happy with that. My first game I bought here was GalCiv 1: Ultimate Edition.
Someone told me about Lord of the Realm being here. 2012 or so? I dont know, I cant see my avatar as I write this...
