I hope this is okay to ask. I've wondered over the years what is the point of community wishlist. Whether it is actually used for reference to add new games.
So for the things which are super popular with no clear barriers preventing it on gog (too new game or whatever) they are seriously considered? Does
it help gog inform what games could be potentially added. I'm just curious. I was looking at some games I added in the past that would be so unlikely to come ha like petz, pokemon (nintendo games will never be added lol) and that. Kind of forgot about the feature as I don't see it much. Maybe skyrim has a chance here but idk. And I didn't know gog did movies?
I think it is generally a checklist and a communication channel to the GOG staff what kinds of features or games are wanted to GOG, and roughly how much there is need for that (ie. how many have voted for it).

Naturally even if there are one billion votes that Half-life 3 should appear on GOG, it doesn't guarantee it will happen as there are other things affecting it as well.

Anyway, I do not believe the wishlist system is useless. It at least informs GOG of things that some of their customers want to see happening, and how much support there is for those ideas. As you've seen, sometimes they even fulfill those wishes.

I blame the community wishlist for the release of Gog Galaxy .
I added something to the wishlist, a couple of days ago. It's gone now. It was for Dying Light: Hellraid. Does it being removed mean it's already planned to be added or that there's no chance? :)

I can imagine they consult it occasionally as a decision aid when they have to make a choice about accepting a game or not, or as an argument when they try to convince publishers that it would be worth it selling their games here. But no more than that. I don't think they use it as a compass for which projects to tackle next, and I don't think they regularly read and think about feature suggestions, at least not anymore.

I think that was mostly due to that survey they did among the regular forum users back then (AFAIK the only actual survey they ever did, at least during my time here).

Like I said, there might have been more people voting for it in that survey. Or not. Who knows, for all we know, GOG might already have been set on this idea and just wanted to gather a few votes to back it up.
I doubt they even look at the wish list, it’s been seen that they don’t really look at the forum either. So no, I don’t believe anything on the website is high (or perhaps even in) focus.
More important is the social media links to Facebook, Twitter, discord, Reddit. That’s where prize draws happen, information is pushed out, ideas sent in. The website is really just a hangover from good old games.

It means that your wish might not have even been registered in the wishlist. Not a surprise, really. The whole thing is still in beta.

Nobody knows for sure. I think it's a tool that GOG can show off when negotiating with publishers to bring highly-demanded games to the store. Every once and then a smaller developer will suggest voting their game in the community wishlist if you want it on GOG, so maybe it works both ways. What certainly doesn't exist is a threshold after which a game or feature is automatically added.
i woudnt say the wishlist is totally useless
but it isnt some instant gratification list either.
Personally i see it more like a tool to guage interest in a voted feature or Game
but even if theres a much voted feature or game it isnt gauranteed it will happen/appear here

It is used to a minor degree (as a tool to get an idea of what people really want here / one way to tell what could sell well), though obviously not the be-all end-all and moreso for older games that have time to gather votes. Some of the new batch of Square Enix games - Dungeon Siege 1-2 and Deus Ex Human Revolution - had thousand of wishlist votes, whereas many of the brand new indie titles probably only have a few votes. The Evil Within games probably only had around 550 combined votes, but are well-received "AAA" titles so GOG is very unlikely to reject those no matter the wishlist votes. XCOM 2 had ~3600 combined votes.

also it could be that wishlist votes reflect a minor slice of total number of potential sales, if GOG has millions of users and the topmost wishes only have 50k,30k,20k-ish votes.

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games#order=votes_total - if interested, one can take a look here with "hide completed" unchecked to see what's most-desired and what has been completed.

edit: if voting were much harder than it currently is, I might encourage it less, but as it stands it only takes a few seconds generally
