Nothing new for us Brits, unfortunately. The American linguistic standard has been defining what is permissible to say online for years now. Now that the world is more global and online than ever, it's slowly impacting the spoken word on the ground, too. Although I suppose it works both ways. I could slip in words that are naughty in England but mean nothing to Americans.
