TB can be a bit of a prick at times but nothing I can't handle.
Toning it down just a bit for either couldn't hurt though. :P
Everyone has their preferences after all. :)

I'm not really sure what it says that a game that was released in 1993 can be an 8.8 among all the games release today. not sure what that says.
gerstmann and company are right. the 5 point rating system is the best. personally I think it needs a sixth state whereby you had a no-star rating just to illustrate the total crap but anyway. seeing this as 4-stars wouldn't make me think twice but an "8.8"? it's kind of weird and invalidates the whole system a bit I dunno.
