There is a lot of criticse about GOG, but there is also a lot of pointless bitching in this forum.
Swedrami: Me personally, I don't expect anything, but what most people are probably looking for is:
- an official statement by GoG admitting to the fact that the "many gamers" excuse for backing out from releasing Devotion was... well, just a very poor excuse for them getting cold feet at the last minute, realizing that they might put the goodwill of the chinese portion of their audience in jeopardy
- the eventual release of Devotion on GoG
Both of which GoG obviously isn't comfortable/willing/able to do (at least for now), for various reasons.
XYCat: Cool cool, and how goes the fight for freedom and justice on the other fronts? I assume you're flooding the forums of every digital store that doesn't sell that game, right?
A lot to criticise about GOG, but choosing not to carry a game is a business decision that GOG is entitled to make.
GeraltOfRivia_PL: - what do you expect them to do, really?
Ancient-Red-Dragon: It's real simple: I expect them to release Devotion.
And also I expect them to apologize profusely & publicly for:
a) banning it in the first place and
b) lying about the reason why they did so and
c) deliberately ignoring the crisis for over a month (or two, or three, or four, or six, or twelve...or however long it will take before they finally find some courage and address it with openness and honesty and 100% full disclosure & transparency).
And your OP contains many false premises, i.e:
- assuming that every person in and/or from China supports the CCP --- that's not true. Many of them hate it and want it abolished.
- assuming that every person in and/or from China wants to ban Devotion. That's also not true. Many of them don't, and many of them don't know Devotion exists...and of those that don't, almost none would want it to be banned even if they did later come to know it exists.
- assuming that GOG isn't losing money via their decision to ban Devotion (and their accompanying decision to lie about the reason why they did so, and scapegoat it onto the fictional fabrication "many messages from gamers"). That's also not true.
GOG is losing tons of money already as a result of having done that...both from long-time GOG customers who will either now boycott GOG entirely, and also those will buy from GOG much less often now.
And in addition to that, GOG is losing tons of money from the literally hundreds of thousands of potential customers who GOG desperately wants to win over...all of whom universally condemn GOG over this matter, as it was exposed to them by huge youtubers with 800,000 to 1 million plus subscribers.
These are the very same consumers that GOG is bending over backwards to lure onto the GOG platform with Galaxy 2.0...which GOG probably spent millions of dollars on making features for it that GOG's actual customers don't care one iota about (i.e. putting all of your DRM-ed games under one launcher which also then launches the DRM-launchers too, LOL).
So, the point being, GOG's decision to ban Devotion is devastating their financial situation,
not helping it (like your OP is incorrectly claiming)...and it's also limiting their growth potential via all the hundreds of thousands of non-customers who they've alienated via banning Devotion and who now aren't ever going to become customers.
Gotta love somebody who probably could not sucessful run a corner lemonade stand telling a big company ow to run theri business.
