Are you playing the newer "Enhanced Edition" (from Beamdog) or the original "Complete" version of the game?
In the original "Icewind Dale Complete" it is as user Ryan333 responded. Double click on the item stack and it opens a window where you can choose how many of the stack you want to move from one character's inventory slot.
I have not played the "Enhanced Edition" in a long while--only before the 2.x patch version--so, I can not comment on whether they changed this behaviour or not there or in the more recent patches.
