JoaoPauloZA: I don't know about a Renaissance, but things are starting to look better in the procurement department. I grew up with most of these titles offered here, and while they are classics, some are just too "classic" by today's standards. Put another way, pixel art games are popular today. I cannot tolerate them for a second. That was state of the art when I was a kid, but I have no interest anymore. I want those slightly older but not ancient modern AAA titles. Let me actually stress my GPU a bit while giving me the DRM-free experience that keeps me a hermit. So yeah, they are doing better here recently. I hope they keep it up.

As for the user who asked what games don't work here....well, Crysis for one. There are many others too. GOG needs to get back to the lab as it were and fix those too to live up to their creed.
I was playing Crysis last week. What OS are you playing on? Are you running any third party apps in the background?

I have over 1300 games, and only two games do not work on my newer PC. That's the bad thing about PC gaming, everyone has different hardware. This means if it works for me, it might not work for you.

I found out last week that some games won't start with Intel 10th, 11th & 12th Gen CPU. Two of my games had that issue. Luckily there is a workaround for it. Not sure people know how hard it's to keep games updated with ever evolving hardware.

I don't own it. I refunded it. It was too much a hassle with the constant crashes. That's with a 10900k and a 3080 on Windows 11. But, the origin version works. It's a well known problem that never gets addressed. The problem with this game is that it has been tinkered with. It uses VC 2005 and msdia80.dll. It wants to improperly install that dll in the root directory. Have lots of games on GOG that use msdia80.dll, and no other title except this one has that behavior.
Origin does not do this either. And yeah, it's hard to keep games updated, but that is GOG's main promise. They are supposed to continuously fix titles. That is their promise after all. So, your titles that don't work is actually something that needs fixed no doubt about it. But, that's off topic to this thread. I like the stream of newer titles for sure.

Interesting are hardware specs are not too far off from each other. i7 12700KF and 3070. I know you don't have the game anymore, but this fix might work for Crysis or other games that have issues.

The two games I have work just not on windows 11 right now. I agree GOG needs to update the games to work on newer hardware/OS.

Thanks for the link, man. I'll check it out.
I can be cautiously optimistic, but well there's a lot of creaky old code that would need to be demolished.

Is this a hint that there is a another big release on the horizon.

Mjauv: is GOG having a renaissance moment and can we expect more high profile/premium games coming here
I hope so. I'd love to see Dragon Age II, Dragon Age Inquisition, Dead Space 2, Dead Space 3, Fallout 4, and Mass Effect Trilogy (not the Legendary Edition). The most recent of these was released in 2015.

My gut feeling is we'll have to wait until EA caves in and shuts down Origin. And then, we can hopefully have the Syndicate game as well :)
Can we really say that with Return to Monkey Island missing? That's a biiiiig miss for GOG to not get that at launch with point and click adventures being a classic genre.

It's here!

Skyrim without the creation club is a really good sign (not just that, the offline installers work great, without any push to use galaxy).
And after the release/pull out of Hitman they did not make any other mistake (at least for what I can tell). It was like 1 year ago.
I think they really are having a renaissance.
If they continue like this I will go back to be a really happy and loyal customer.

Linko64: I'm not a Zoom employee. lol Even after your attempts to mini-stalk me you still couldn't read?

As ever going off-topic though my guy
avatar
Syphon72: I did go off topic, which I apologize for. So this will be my last reply to you. It's not stalking when the Zoom CEO said you work for them in an interview. Your also well know on ZOOM discord and have this on your profile. ( In the pic below) I'm a ZOOM customer allowed to go on their discord. But I guess that makes me a stalker. Right?

Have a good day.
I think your wording was wrong but not your meaning.

Very hard to prove someone is an employee of some company without having bank statements etc. - even then, it's not conclusive.

However, if you were to say "Linko64 works for Zoom Platform" then from his posts on this forum alone - do a search - it is indisputable.

On-topic:

No. The thread title should possibly have asked "Is GOG reaching parity?" to which the answer would be "No but closer than before".

If GOG really wanted to have a renaissance they would work to resurrect games that are unavailable due to:
* games inconvenient to port to modern architectures/libraries (e.g. Wheel of Time, Medieval: Total War (2002) )
* games no longer released due to licensing (e.g. Black and White, Duke Nukem)
* original versions of remastered games (e.g. LBA(2)/Twinsen's Odyssey

GOG interestingly brought back Wheel of Time which I support, but it is overpriced for a B-class game from its era when there were SO MANY Quake clones. How about bringing back an A-class title like MTW? (impossible I know because SEGA are b******s)

Something like Black and White or Duke Nukem I would buy again even though I own both on CD (somewhere).

LBA/LBA2 seem to be lacking the original DOSBox versions after the game was updated to the remastered versions. GOG is going backwards here.

I read somewhere that they were meant to be included as a "bonus goody", is that not currently the case? Who's slacking, the publisher or GOG?

Let's say he has a vested interest, whether or not he is a full time employee.

They were not. Unless you got a reply on their blog :P.

The publisher has updated both games and removed the DOS versions. On the bright side ScummVM has recently added support for the new releases, so Linux gamers won't have to suffer that much.

Does loading them in ScummVM yield an experience closer to the original versions? A bit like how you can extract the original versions of Monkey Island 1 and 2 from the SE versions.

I'm sure I saw a post on the company's current blog saying that they intended to include the DOS versions. I wonder if they forgot to request GOG put them on or if GOG forgot to fulfill their request?
