I'm a bit frustrated it seems that big companies treat gamers like idiots and disable core features of some videogames especially old ones like Dungeon Siege 2, wondering about conspiracous things now or if it's because they want to avoid people screaming multiplayer doesn't work because new gamers can't figure out port forward etc. When a game has multiplayer in its game menu and it's greyed out/disabled by the company updates, especially an update that did that and also disabled VPNS from working, that just doesn't seem right to me. I wish i could get feedback from this morning grumpy rant of mine but i'm a 30 years old gamer and not computer-new, I'd say i'm quite savvy with computers and this whole get rid of LAN thing just doesn't go through my mind. I'm glad there's fixes by people for people like me who want to re-enable multiplayer in such games....
What games(s) are you thinking about that have had MP over LAN disabled?
Not saying that there isn't any games were this have been done as I've seen it myself. Can't remember wich game though.
But yeah, it's sad that allmost no game nowadays have a LAN feature. I think it's alot about statistics like you said. Companies don't trust their own products, they need to see that people are playing multiplayer.
Most people (youngsters espacially) wouldn't even look for a LAN feature. They don't think about that a game might stop working in the future when it's not supported anymore and the servers are shut down.

Man that narrowed it, you're right and that makes even more sense now, but yeah i mentioned Dungeon Siege 2, and i'm thinking of commandos games ((they did that to commandos on steam at least)) hehe
Looking at reviews, it looks like they actually did remove the multiplayer buttons from the games? Why the $%&$#)*(%&$ would they disable direct connect multiplayer? Direct connect multiplayer is THE GOLD STANDARD for what games need!

Seconded. It's high time this store takes a stand in favor of DRM-free multiplayer. Albeit I know it's difficult since devs are in most cases refusing to make it.

To be fair to devs: Writing for direct connections is HARD. Which is why I wish GOG's API included direct connection in addition to Galaxy, so if one was implemented, the other automatically was. Network middleware that ISN'T tied with DRM is scarce, especially since a lot of the older generation ones that were server-based are defunct their servers all are gone.
