If you're reading this please go on the community wishlist and vote for this game. It's my #1 wanted game on GOG and has been for some time. There are like 3 or 4 different requests for it on the wishlist. If everyone voted for them and nagged GOG in the comments, maybe they'll take notice?

It's easily the best Magic: The Gathering card game for the PC. No microtransactions, DLC packs, or absurd deck limitations. You just wander around the game world and build up the deck you want to play by defeating NPC's. Each NPC you defeat gives you a random new card.

It was simple. No sales model trying to get you to open your wallet, just a CCG game on PC that was intended to be fun to play, and it worked.
Yes, would be good, topic was discussed recently:

And these are the exact reasons why it will not be possible to re-release it - it was too good and new releases allow more microtransactions and easy money-making DLCs = more earnings for developer.

That's true it won't be nearly as profitable a title, however if I remember right it was an offline only game so it wouldn't allow tournament play. It also only had old edition cards. So it wouldn't directly compete with their online CCG. Releasing a beloved old title like this also makes the brand name more visible. They could consider it cheap advertising.

Well, I have the original game with all addons and you will be surprised - it is playable online. Old game servers are switched off but you can use "local play" over IP. Also, there are people who implemented new MtG releases into the game, so... :)
Heard of this MtG video game adaptation long ago, but had no idea it had a big world to roam until I caught ProJared's playthrough of it. I too would really like it to come to gog, but I imagine it might have licensing/rights issues, and that's assuming Wizards of the Coast is even interested in a re-release.

I could easily assume they are not. :P

Most likely. Which is unfortunate as it seems to have alot of wishlist votes here, including mine.

Yes, indeed. I'm so happy to own original boxed versions, as old MTG player I treasure this game a lot.

I tried new versions but they are so... dull and I'm losing nothing by not using Steam.
Legally, it's probably a hot mess.

Considering you'd have to get the artists, voice actors, composers, and the tangled web of companies to sign off on it.

The artists especially I was thinking. My sister and I use to pay attention to the artist names on the cards when looking at them. Wasn't there a very first print that didn't have the artist names on them originally? I might be remembering wrong or thinking of something else though. I haven't kept up with MtG in over 20 years lol.

Edit: It might have been missing copyright symbols now that I think of it.

Well, I think it would not be as bad as you said. Why? Microprose, when creating the game, probably didn't need to sign agreements with every single artist separately - it's WotC who holds whole set of legal agreements.

I didn't read the whole thread so pardon me if I'm giving you info you already have. I loved this game (MTG Shandalar) and was sad when my drive with it died. One of the other posters is exactly right, this world is so f)*#&$*#( up with model that games and phone apps use now, greed drives most of these companies and it's just too much
Anyways I thought you might want download the game, it's part of the abandonware collection now and I was downloading when I also saw this page in my results
