Stevedog13: What are you talking about? IBS genre games are wildly popular with titles such as Dr. Diverticulitis, Hemorrhoid Hunter, Hemorrhoid Hunter 2: The Wrath of Crohn, ColoWrecktal, Assteroids and of course the one that started it all Captain Colostomy.

amok: HOG's are not very obscure, it is probably one of the most prolific PC games genre today.

Same with walking simulators, it is numerous games who belongs in that genre now, usually with elements of horror.
I think this is more along the lines of the name of the genre being indistinctive, overly general or not helpful.

For example, other than the FPS (first-person shooter) games where your character is in a wheelchair, aren't each describable as a walking simulator? Or maybe a "walking simulator with a projectile launcher"?

And MUD is a multi-user dimension (or dungeon, even when not in a dungeon). Isn't that any multiplayer game? The MMORPG games might as well have been called video-MUDs.

amok: what about 1st Person Rogue-likes / Rouge-lites
I agree. That's very obscure to me because I think of what a rogue as a person is suppose to be. It seems like that term is a reference to a specific game named "Rogue" and therefore is not about the character but the gameplay itself, which isn't really distinctive to rogues.

Rollers of the Realm - pinball RPG! :)
(but I guess it is more like a hybrid then an actual genre...)
