I don't watch movies or series nowadays (especially not about WW2), but Russian series Shtrafbat (2004), about a Soviet WW2 penal batallion, sounds somewhat intriguing. Here's an episode on Youtube:

EDIT: Watched the first two episodes...actually pretty great stuff. But unfortunately good (!) English subtitles seem to be only available for those two episodes (DVD edition is apparently terrible) :-((((

I really don't watch a lot of movies but one movie I remember watching it when I was a kid is "Enemy at the gates".. It really was a fun movie to watch especially if you like sniper rifles.

I can't think of any that haven't been mentioned. Dunkirk and the pair of Iwo Jima movies by Clint Eastwood. Everything else these days seems to be full of Hollywood crap and/or out of place romances so they can be marketed as semi-chickflicks.

Special mention to Nolan for making a modern war movie that doesn't have Americans in it.

Was looking forward to Peter Jacksons remake of Dam Busters...but that now appears to be vapour-cinema. I don't think it's happening. Too bad, because it would have interesting to see if he caved to the sensitive new age crowd and changed the name of Guy Gibson's dog- who was called Nigger. I remember some people making a fuss about it online.
