GamezRanker: Because it isn't a phone only game. If this new game was on PC, I am guessing they might have it here as well.
rjbuffchix: Perhaps...but to me the standard for "the DRM-free store" should be whether or not a game has DRM (or DRM-like schemes) rather than what platform it is designed for. On a similar note, we have seen games that were previously on mobile (or mobile/PC) which are complete experiences and don't do the microtransaction bs. So it makes me wonder what the excuse is for the games that do have that stuff. "We need mtx and more barren game experiences in order to take more of your moneys guise" isn't a compelling reason, as a consumer at least :)
nightcraw1er.488: You could argue steam is actually better as they never had any ideals before and the client was there initially, so whilst the same, they haven’t gone back on anything.
rjbuffchix: I don't think so. Scheme didn't ever have a lack of ideals in my view, as far as I'm concerned, the DRM *is* their ideal. Platform lock-in is also their ideal, and this opinion is supported by the DRM needed to access Half Life (2? I'm not remembering) back in the day, all the way to Proton in more recent years. Their contributions to the DRMification of gaming are absolutely heinous if you ask me, and very few people are willing to acknowledge that, partially because so many of them got sucked into the whole scheme and bought massive amounts of cheap games for rent there.
That doesn't absolve GOG but there is no world in which GOG is the lesser of two evils or whatever for me. Besides, shouldn't we just be against "evil" across the board? :D
Yes, the point is steam did not start out by trying to be different, and setting out its pro gamer agendas, creating websites such as FCKDRM.com. It simply said, here is the way we do things, like it or go elsewhere. There was no link to steam for HL1, but 2 is, as is all the modding and such like. Platform lock-in, sure, but then gog wants that as well.
In terms of the drmification, sure they comtributed, how CEG ranks against securom or denuvo though? Or even worse streaming.
Erm, no we should t be against evil, we have Ash for that!! Oh, have you watched the series on Netflix, talking about streaming and versus evil. It’s pretty good, just finished season 3!
