DoomSooth: I hope that ice cream is for eating and not for dipping in to reduce the swelling.
Some people just don't enjoy crushed nuts on top of their ice cream. XD

@OP I don't have an issue with employees paid sick leave / sick days off as long as there are things in place to counter abuse of the system. If women get one more day a month with more flexible rules I say if it's proven good for productivity then all the better.

I recognise there are differences physically as well as medically between men and women. The argument "but dey get more than we do" doesn't really apply here unless you've got a medical condition which impacts your ability to work one day every month like clockwork.

I'm pretty sure this is a non-issue, especially for we customers who have nothing to fear from what goes on in behind the curtain if it doesn't directly impact the product provided to us.

Orkhepaj: but it does
Yep makes stuff better

Happier and healthier staff work better and more productively, and as an added bonus Misogynistic snowflakes like the OP leave the community improving that as well.

Its a WIN WIN

Pick up a history book or talk to older women of how nice patriarchy was (still are to a great deal) to women in the good old days. :D

I'm a man, I'm in favor of this and this should be considered bare minimum. Completely speechless how someone can be bothered by this..

Layarion: GOG has policies that give woman paid days off every month, but they don't seem to give men paid days off every month.

I guess men don't have bad days.

So my point being, I supported GOG for a time more than steam - but that's over now. If I find out that they'll give men paid days off that is just as lenient as their menstrual policy, then I'll change my mind. Otherwise, they're just showing favor to one sex over the other. Which, is something I thought we were aiming to end in the world. guess not.
Trust me dude, you don't wanna be around them when it's that time of month.

randomuser.833: In most European countries when you are ill, you go to the doc and get payed days off until you are better.
Easy as that.
It isn't even vacation.
In Germany you will get payed for 6 weeks by your company if your doc says you are to ill to work.
After that our universal health care insurance will pay you 70% for max 78 weeks and if you can't work after that time it is very likely you will get a pension.
So, you are very ill by depression, you can get days off.

And if you get ill while you are on vacation (in germany at last 26 days off are written law), you can go to the doc and the days you are ill won't count to your vacation days.

And very often you need to go to the doc on illness day 3 and not before.

And yes, some companies allow menstrual indicated leave.

The only difference to the past is, you don't have to see the doc.

Wellcome to Europe.
We got social welfare systems and companies that are (forced) to be friendly to their employes.

US companies had to learn that the hard way in the past.
US citizens - well, your own fault.

Layarion: So if a guy comes in and says i need a paid day off because i got a headache or am just not feeling well, they gonna skip the doctors note and give it to him?
Yes.
The idea is, that the worker can be in a state that he can't do his work or where he will do to many mistakes so it is better to give him a day to rest to come back with full power.
And if it is an illness, that can spread, like a normal seasonal flue. It can be better if the worker stays at home so NOT all of his coworkers are ill within days.

Give ill workers payed days off is an economic decision too, because it will save you money in the long run...

Parents are allowed to stay at home when their children under a certain age are ill too. Because those children need care.

I know, all this must sound very strange for somebody from the land of the free...
Well, it is what you get when workers stay together for their rights and not only believe in "I can do it when I just work hard enough" (what is a lie to begin with).

And even if you have to bring a doctors note.
If you tell a doc, that you can't work because of something more serious, they usually will give out a note.
And at last in germany most docs will send you to rest for at last 3 days or until the next weekend.
So companies who not want a doctors note at day one do hope, that for some things resting one day is enough and that their workers do got enough personal bindings to their coworkers, so they don't overdo it.

Sorry, we, at the other side of the ocean, can't do much about you living in a country with 3rd world social care system your ancestors have chosen out of their free will.
