Jeepster67: We've been waiting for a long time. They refuse to release a linux downloader in spite of our repeated requests. Only option is not to purchase any more games until they comply. They won't fix it until it hurts them not to.
You could use gogrepo. Works nicely under Linux.

As others have said, GOG will never develop a Linux Downloader-version, since they want to push Galaxy instead and don't even manage to get that done under Linux.

AlienMind: when microsoft flips the switch to make UWP apps mandatory on their OS everybody has to pay them a fee for releasing applications - just like apple already does.
steam is aware and already does development of the linux and vulkan platform.
seeing galaxy as steams little brother its just a matter of time until they ramp up linux games.

Gersen: Even if they make UWP mandatory, which is unlikely to happen on the desktop version of Windows any time soon, you don't need to pay any fee unless you want your game to be released on the Windows store itself.

Windows 10 UWP apps works like Android, you can enable to install them from any sources not just from the Windows store (if you enable to option); nothing would prevent Steam or even Gog from creating their own UWP store and Gog could even release DRM-free UWP games via Galaxy or direct download if they ever wants too (the same thing than what Humble Bundle did on Android).
You're talking about things Microsoft can switch off any time they want to, and I believe they will, after a big number of applications is packaged as UWP. You have to pay any fee Microsoft wants to as you can't make a running binary anymore without a certificate from Microsoft. That's called completed Vendor Lock In, like Apple (and a bunch of Gaming Console Vendors) has/have almost achieved.
You can only trust FOSS, guys. Preach out.

And even if they did, I believe if GOG or Steam really wanted to they could release UWP client in the store and sell UWP games that way. Same way MS is allowing iTunes, Amazon Music, etc in full to come to the Windows 10 Store and sell music and movies.

My understanding is, MS only takes a cut if you use their built in store payment system that is offed to developers. If you design or include your own payment system inside your app then you can release products without giving MS a cut. I could be wrong, but that is what I believe I read somewhere.
