Yup, the easiest & simpliest way is really just to add another internal hard drive. Now this way u definitely hv a lot less to worry abt, almost as gd as plug & play. :)

It is 5400, yes the loading times are much longer than from the SSD. But not longer than there were from an internal HDD.

If it is a laptop, there might not be that option. Only the biggest 17.3" laptops usually seem to have two hard drive bays (e.g. my 17.3" ASUS G75VW does, but its smaller brother, a 15" G55VW has only one hard drive bay AFAIK).

All-in one setups could also be in the same situation as laptops.

There is also the option of replacing the optical disk with an HDD bay, but not all laptops support that (or have such bays available).

I actually play a lot of GOG games from an external hard drive, and it really seems does depend on the game. Specifically how often they want to access stuff onm the external hard drive.

I store them on external HDD but never install them on it.
