MartiusR: I've noticed today that there was update for planetfall... But installer is now almost 3 times bigger than the "release one", why the sudden increase of size? Initial one was about 6 GB.
If anyone knows, I would be grateful to explain (also - I guess that it would be good for me to keep somewhere "old" installer, since game seems to be working absolutely fine with it (so far as I've checked).
Some observations: Steam store page report the required size as "20 GB". Gog store says "20 GB" under "System requirements" on the left, but "10.6 GB" on the right. The leftmost figure on Gog is always more conservative (bigger) than the right-side one.
I don't know what store pages said on the first day of release.
I don't know what's going on, but one possibility is that your original 6 GB one didn't include as much as it should have. Maybe.
Some (but certainly not all) games have smaller downloads but then decompress to be far bigger when installed, so it also might have to do with some issue with that. They forgot to compress the later bug-fixed installer, for instance, or worse, the first one compressed too much with errors that weren't immediately noticed.
I would not simply assume that the 6 GB one is just as good but smaller -- although possible, that's a dangerous assumption without more information.
Some energetic person could try both. Maybe it got worse, maybe it got better -- there certainly are negative reviews on Steam concerning game-breaking bugs, so anything is possible.
But trial and error could be difficult; there might be late-game bugfixes, for instance, that would take a long time to reach.
Then again, if you're happy so far, there's the philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" -- if you go that route, just keep in mind that you should try the bigger download if you run into bugs that make you unhappy.
