Well, that depends on your definition of fun; if fun to you means a well-thought & deep game, chances are you won't find too many mobile games like that (i didn't find anything back then so i stopped paying attention). On the other hand, a bazillion of folks have fun with those simple running & jumping games where you move along a corridor or with the myriads of poorly designed pay-to-win-or-spend-an-eternity-of-trying tower defence games. Fun is a quite subjective thing, but given my preference in games, i agree with you.

Somehow, Atlantic Fleet seems to fall under the first category and it seems to be a well-thought, nicely designed and quite deep (or at least, deeper than most mobile games according to the above review) game that could have been a PC game ported to mobile devices rather than the other way around. What surprised me is the dynamic campaign as well as the attention to detail (how each ship sinks etc).

Is this game turn based? I don't get the mechanics from the trailer and screenshots. I should check some gameplay videos and reviews first, but this game is very likely to be added to my library...

I'm interested in naval stuff so I insta-bought it. I'm pleased with it so far, though it doesn't play like anything else I know of. It is turn-based, each turn you move each of your ships and do an action with it, usually an attack.

The gameplay seems mostly to be based on aiming your guns, torpedoes and planes. And by aiming, I mean you have to do a lot of things manually. The computer will take care of lead for you (unless the wind option is on) but you need to determine the elevation of the guns using various tools available, including radar, shot history and the estimate of your spotter (which is unavailable in smoke). A lot of the game is fiddling around with shot elevation, trying to get it just right through trial, error and guesswork, especially when hunting small ships that are using smoke. Torpedoes are a bit simpler, you select the exact heading of each torp in your spread based on your visual estimate of where the target might go. Torps can take several turns to arrive depending on the distance. Planes are about timing the drop, accounting for wind and selecting an approach so as to avoid too much AA. There's also sub and ASW tactics with depth charges and mortars. Overall, the focus on turn-based aiming reminds me just a bit of those old artillery games but this is more involved.

Looks like it has a good selection of modes too. A bunch of single missions, a premade campaign where you build your fleet, and a dynamic campaign where you sink or protect merchant ships. The tutorial was good and taught me a lot without wasting my time. A bit more fluff would have been nice - ship descriptions, mission descriptions, unlockables, achievements. There is no trace of microtransactions that I can see so far - the renown points are earned by sinking ships in missions and the idea is to make the campaign loseable by running out of points spent on replacing lost ships. There is no grinding either, you can retry missions for a chance at a 2- or 3- star victory at the risk of your persistent ships.

No, but I guess they just carried over some of the blurb as those things are the norm for mobile games (although there are plenty of exceptions).

It's actually a very good mobile game, although much better on a tablet than a phone. Just don't expect the port to be a premium PC wargame release.

Very high quality port, and awesome in its own terms - especially for fans of things like "Silent Service (2)" from the past.

By the way - if you own android device, manually transferring saves let you continue your dynamic campaign on the go, and vice versa. Which is not supported or official feature, but works 100% fine, nevertheless.

About the saved games.Does it set up a games folder that can be copied from to a secure place and of course you need to be able to alt and tab to windows while in game.Then just copy game save back to the games folder and continue on.Is this possible or not?
You definitely can save-scum, if this is what you are asking. The save files and options are located in:
"users/<username>/AppData/LocalLow/Killerfish Games/Atlantic Fleet"

Of course, it saved only between battles in dynamic campaign (so you need to finish current battle before safely exiting).

But, those are very specific questions, and I would wholeheartedly recommend moving talk about it to game's specific forum on GOG community section.
I decided to buy the game, even though the lack of a quick save during battles is a big shortcoming for me. Not because of not being able to save-sum effortlessly, but because my gaming sessions are fragmented right now and there is usually the need to quit in any given moment, and resume later in the same day or just another day. Maybe i won't be able to enjoy the campaigns at this moment, but i guess i'll enjoy the single battles. Having said that, i'll definitely get in contact with the dev team for this feature; hope something good comes from it at some point.
