Going further north.

Three DLCs for Celestian Tales: Old North, the morally challenging turn-based JRPG, are available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 40-66% launch discount.

If you haven't yet, it's also a good opportunity to pick up the base game Celestian Tales: Old North at 66% off!

Howl of the Ravager takes place 20 years before the events of the main game and follows the exploits of Severin Leroux, a young adventurer on his path to greatness. Event-skipping, faster movement speed, and other assorted improvements elevate this personal tale to one of the most fun experiences you can have while travelling the Old North.

Part of the Celestian Tales' charm is the opportunity to experience the story from six different perspectives, depending on the character you choose. The Alternate Costume Pack lets you customize these characters even further, so that you can pick the look that better matches their attitude. But Celestian Tales is not just about appearances, the evocative music is also a huge part of the experience and now you can find all 17 tracks, remastered and in both FLAC and mp3 format, inside the Celestian Tales: Old North pack.

Return to the Celestian Tales: Old North with a new adventure and a new look, while the remastered tunes are keeping you company, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 40-66% discounts will last until July 13, 12:59 PM UTC.
Well, for that price the whole pack might be worth a try despite the mediocre reviews of the main game. I've put it in my cart for now to give me some time to think about it.
I have been on the fence a while about the base game but now discounted just bought everything available for under a tenner which is awesome, thanks GOG and dev :)

edit: it looks like the improvements are available even if you own just the base game. My apologies & thanks to Starmaker for the clarification.

Oh, and alternate costume paid DLC too? Don't get me started on that...

The only good thing is the soundtrack, but the aftertaste of the other two DLCs is kinda bitter..

Publishers/Devs still try and sell this type of 'content' after the Horse Armor debacle? I am disappoint

Was it necessary to ask for money for these, dear dev/pub? I think these are flaws of the game and the "popular demand" means that there were people that didn't like the game (or parts of it) due to these very features/gameplay mechanics/whatever you call them. These could (and in my opinion, should) have been adressed in a patch or two, not a paid DLC. Keep you customers happy, not angry.

Maybe they patched those into the main game?
At this sale price point the game is worth it. I thought it was a maybe c to maybe c+ core game with nice aspects and room for improvement in other aspects. The soundtrack felt suikoden 1&2'ish. Pretty cool there. I may try the dlc that actually has gameplay.
But I was hoping to see part 2 before dlc since the main story arc is broken in parts.

If people go in with an open mind and like jrpgs I think they'll get their money's worth. It's not an amazing game, but is an impressive first game from a new small dev team. When i played the game i felt there was potential for sure.

Those used to be kickstarter-exclusive, so it's actually a major improvement.

They did.

Then it's my fault for thinking that the improvements were available only if you buy the DLC. Thanks for letting me know, I'll edit my (rant) post.
Not sure about the DLC, but at the current discount the main game is definitely worth checking out. Due to the writing and game mechanics, I think it's worth a look even if you're not normally a fan of J-RPGs.

That should have been part of the announcement. It's one thing (a good one!) to sell kickstarter-stuff afterwards and another to sell... well, horse armor.
The base game looks interesting, but the description "The First of a 3 Part Series", is enough reason for me to wait.

I've enjoyed it. If you enjoyed old-school jrpg, you'll enjoy this game.

It's a bit short, but they kept the level grinding to a minimum which I personally appreciated.
Well personally I own the base game, but taking this DLC approach despite already supposedly being part 1 of a trilogy means I am relegating future purchases of this to not until Part 3 plus all its DLC is released.

With the sheer number of games worth playing and their reasonable costs there is no logical reason to replay a game anymore. I get nostalgia and all but backlogs are far too deep to replay games just to get the DLC experiences. Especially one that is such a mediocre offering.

This needs to stop. We need to stop buying incomplete products because all we are doing is encouraging the sale of incomplete products.
