Studying the anatomy of space demons.

Doom 3: BFG Edition is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 75% launch discount.
Back to reclaim its FPS throne, Doom 3 adds a strong dose of claustrophobic horror into the series' timeless cocktail of explosive action, horrific enemies, and ultra-violent massacre.

The BFG Edition is the game's remastered version, containing DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 3, and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as The Lost Mission.

Feeling nostalgic or just awfully trigger-happy? Check out our Bethesda shooters sale.
The 75% discount will last until August 28, 1 PM UTC.
I had hoped this weeks Beth sales was due to more game coming. Its nice not to be disappointed.

While having to choose between seeing your enemy or shooting them did add a lot of atmosphere to the original version, it just seemed ludicrous that the Mars station didn't have a single roll of gaffer tape.

Klumpen0815: Two Questions:
1) Why is this one region locked for Germans?
Because it contains 'Resurrection of Evil', which is indiziert in Germany. And of course because of the German storefront, the price of which is that GOG complies with German censorship.

Also I think the original version had a working multiplayer mod not available to BFG edition.

Original version of "Resurrection of Evil" is indexed, but NOT the version of the BFG edition.

This edition here has a USK-18 rating and is available everywhere.

The regionlock for THIS edition IS false.

Not to sound ungrateful or anything but why not the original version?

Well, the GOG.com user agreement covers this topic:
9. WHAT YOU CAN'T DO WITH GOG SERVICES
[...]
(i) We ask you to follow any applicable geographic or regional, language or location-based restrictions, requirements or rules regarding GOG.
Sure, anyone can go use Tor, VPN or whatever service to change their IP to a more fitting location but I don't think everybody will feel comfortable breaking the rules. Though I have
never heard of a account being suspended for doing so.

Alternative: Ask somebody to gift you the game.

ZFR: According to the game's page, this includes Doom1 Ultimate and Doom 2. Is that really so?
That's correct, but both games were modified from the original releases that are sold separately on GOG.

I just checked and you are right. It is rated 18 in Germany and is available via the German storefront of other retailers. (Steam, Mediamarkt, Amazon). Which means GOG screwed up and are overeager to comply with censorship, again, that doesn't even exist in this case.
I wonder how DOOM III holds up? When it was released in 2004, it was praised for its groundbreaking graphic, but some felt the simplistic find-the-exit missions were not as much "classic" as they were "dated".
But the BFG edition from 2012 did update the graphic and also made some other changes, heavily debated.

Personally, I felt the heavily scripted scenes made me think too much of the mechanics, and audio logs were pretty lame. "This is Captain Whoever reporting, and I shall now make weird noises to give the illusion that I'm being killed by demons. AAAAhgyayh! Ghahyff! YAAAARGH!"
Good to see so many gamers like todays new (old)games, i will skip this one and hope for something else next week.
