UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Nah that would probably be recommended.

I have 16 GB of RAM, everything pretty much maxed. Game runs fine overall.

Huh? I don't think Sony has anything to do with the PC release. They are the publisher for the PS4 version.

Also, the reception is roughly 50% positive, and people who are having issues are more likely to rant on the internet, because the people that aren't having issues are busy playing the game. Which I'm going to go do as well.

I realize 50% still sucks, but you could say "That explains the positive reception, like everywhere". And you'd be 50% right just like you are. Or 50% wrong.

The RAM requirements aren't because of the visuals. They are because this game is storing a huge amount of data persistently, unlike most games which dump what you're not using because it's not needed anymore.

Also, it runs fine with 8 GB, as far as I can tell.

Hmmm I wonder. People who can't get the game to work are immediately posting reviews saying it doesn't work.

The people who can play it are... playing and having fun? :P

Seems we're starting to get positive feedback after half a day. Although the bugs that they probably couldn't have noticed or known about are being worked on, a sign of a good dev with a rough starts on their game's release.

Why the extra attention on this site then?

Garrison72: Why are you guys shilling for this broken game?
They took the blue pill. ;p

styggron: Thank you for suggesting it but the game never gets in that far. Instant crash to desktop :(

Luned: This thread might be worth checking as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4xene1/pc_crash_thread/
Thank you I'll give it a look.
What I will probably do is just wait a few weeks till there is a patch. :(

PC is well within Min spec.

How can we check which OPENGL we have in case that is the problem for crash on boot ? Checked nvidia settings all over the place. Nothing lists OPEN GL version.

I think it's a new religion -- Amway-Scientologism. These guys are going to be leet corpsmen. o.O
Wow, this highly anticipated game is getting murdered in Steam reviews and has a 53% positive rating currently. I'm kind of surprised about that. Apparently the game is very unstable for some folks, and others get terrible performance with 20FPS or lower with super high end hardware. Also, it was originally advertised as being multi-player although primarily a single-player game. Now it is being advertised as single-player only. Apparently a couple of gamers met up with each other already on some planet and couldn't see each other, and for one of them it was day time and the other it was night time.

Sounds like the game is pretty buggy and apparently released before it was really ready. I am guessing there are going to be a lot of angry pre-order gamers out there getting angry returns.

Hopefully the developer can address the reported issues quickly enough to save some face though as the premise of this game was quite interesting.
