UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!
Waited for release, took a short nap, woke up to a maelstrom of shit. Wow, glad I waited to hit the order button. At least my new memory upgrade can go for that Witcher 3 goty edition down the road.

It's like they say, 'Spore me once, shame on me. Spore me twice, ain't gonna get Spored again.'

As we do not know how many copies they've sold, the number 150k says absolutely nothing. This game has 6550 negative reviews(6494 positive) on steam and was released today - I sincerely doubt that it is a small percentage, well perhaps every person that has issues has left a review, who knows.

And I further doubt that they would hire a whole external Q&A Team on short notice for a "small" percentage.

Well from what I've seen only around 200k give or take have been online since the game came out. Granted we don't know GOG's numbers but 6K isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things.

I imagine the negative reviews will start to fade out soon enough, those who are playing without issues are playing the game... not reviewing. Time next week gets here we will have a much better picture.

flanner: what PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam?

is it actually possible to play the NMS offline?
Yes. I didn't even install through Galaxy, just downloaded and installed manually.

Runs fine at medium settings on my particular setup (so far, have only gotten a tiny bit into game, had to break for real life happenings).

I did update my graphics driver before install to be on the safe side, and I'm not running a 4K monitor or anything like that.

AMD FX-8120, NVidia GTX 760.

AeronWarcliffe: I stayed up until 3am local time in order to install and play this as soon as i possibly could... Currently, any time i try to open the game, it stops working immediately. All i have seen of the game so far is the Hello Games logo.
same here, my specs are amd phenomII x6 1090T, R9 280, win 10, 8Gb ram

apparently its the cpu? im looking for patches anybody know where to get them?
low rated
GoG won't release Hatred, a game that runs perfectly fine from a fellow Polish dev...but they release broken crap like NMS for 60 USD.

Get your priorities in order guys.

Only one patch was released as far as I am aware and it is specific to Steam issues.
Another rushed title (proof here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRkHPsZak08) just like Bombshell. Makes me sad that numerous patches have to be released which do not influence the scores anymore, because you don't get to make a first impression twice.

Mouse acceleration on PC? What is this, the 00s?

Crewdroog: hey all, are the graphics REALLY that bad?

apehater: they're a little bit outdated, but still ok for me
lol thanks!

apehater: USERNAME:Tyrrhia#Q&_^Q&Q#GROUP:4#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:112#Q&_^Q&Q#Haha—laughing at this terrible over-hyped release. The art design is interesting (though the textures are really poor) but what good is that if you've got a boring and repetitive gameplay, especially since you've gone the easy road of procedural generation? And I'm not even talking about the issues many people are experiencing, and the fact that it's a PC port that controls horribly (even though I've read that it was built with computers in mind).

I don't even feel sorry for Hello Games. I felt sorry for Wolf Brew Games—the creators of Slain!—because they had put their hearts and souls into their release and seeing the rather poor reviews when it first released was sad (by the way, a "remake" patch fixing most of the launch issues has been released and presumably is in GOG's hands, now). But I do feel sorry for the people who spent a lot of money for a game in which they were severely disappointed, even though one could argue that those are the risks of pre-ordering stuff.#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:112#Q&_^Q&Q#

Instant crash the second you click the launch button (sigh) useless. Never had this problem with anything else here on GoG

:(

Geraldine: An update, for those of us who cant even start the game, it may be down to having older CPUs that cannot do SSE 4.1 support. See this post on Reddit:
avatar
rtcvb32: If that's all it is, simply recompiling the entire source code to use an earlier SSE version would probably do it; Unless it's part of some library API.

However recompiling a large project could take... days... Or hours. I know the Linux kernel takes like 5 hours to compile.

Curious if we'll see that released as an optional replacement if you have issues, or if it will be pushed as a compatibility preference for all future compiles in the near future.
Goodness this is pretty serious if we can't even launch it :(

So, uh, why are you posting instead of playing? lol

I'm not apologizing for a broken game, but I think for whatever reason this game had A LOT of active... ennui? toward it. Look at all the negative reviews pouring in here on GoG (including one person testing if he needed to own the game to give it a negative review LOL). I think it has 12 pages of reviews already.

I get the feeling that this game ruffled the feathers of a very special brand of internet troll, and they are engaging en masse in a nasty campaign.

Me - I guess frying my GPU a few nights ago was a blessing in disguise. By the time I play this it should be butter smooth and I'll miss the poor launch growing pains ;)

I played for like 4 hours.. had to get off to take care of some other stuff. Will be on most of the night for sure.

Well I'll put it this way, game looks great to me... but that's just my opinion and you might need really good hardware. I have no idea what the game looks like on PS4.

Update. After several attempts at launching I get

1. instant crash
or
2. Get to the title screen and crash right after it says "no man sky"

(facepalm)

styggron:
I don't know if it'll help, but I was reading reviews here (trying to) and someone put up this:

"...or I fixed them with normal gaming adjustments. 1) Poor frame rate? Force off in GFX Control Panel then set in game to 90 FPS. 2) OpenGL error? Go to \No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS\TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML Change Full Screen to False and Boardless to True, change back to Fullscreen in-game, never worry again (caused by HDMI output). 3) Pre-ordered and got upgraded ship but lost Hyperdrive ability when sold? Don't accept DLC until you finish Blueprint quest. 4) Bored? This game is not for you...go play Call of Duty..."

Obviously YMMV but give it a shot?
