UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!
Oh I am SOOOO glad I waited and not bought the game.
Good luck people.

YaroslavUSSR: 60$? I am sitting on the fence. So, are there any advantages over Evochron Legacy? Newtonian physics? Seamless universe? Crafting? Space bases and cities construction?
The Evochron series is nothing short of absolutely amazing in my opinion.
First overall impression: Very nice.

2 biggest nitpicks: Options/menu mouse control is ass. I probably could connect my XBox controller to the PC to give the lousy options navigation justification for being lousy but thats not a fix.

Renaming of protagonist... and everything. Why the fuck is my character named after my gog forum handle? In game I found no option to change that (but after 10 min or so searching I got the urge to get said Xbox controller, not to use i in the options menu just to beat up my screen with it; I resisted).

Open a support ticket and refund the game. Show the devs that releasing a game in such an atrocious state is not acceptable.

This is actually pretty common in online connected games, your linked to your account (via GOG or Steam). Though GOG should give a way to change account name.
These posts are starting to scare me.I'm thinking I should not install until there is a patch. I don't want to mar my experience of the game. I'll see how I go. It's sitting there on the HD.

[UPDATE]
My goodness I was reading the reviews on here. An eye opener for sure. :O
Many of those things worry me. When I got Spore it only lasted a week on my HD before I uninstalled it after more of less "finishing it" as I got to the Space Stage. It was disappointing. There wasn't enough to it.

Still, moving on with NMS, I'm still going to try to keep hold of my reality check though.
- This is a "chill out" game as Sean Murray Describes it. I won't be rushing around trying to finish things I'll be spending time looking around and exploring.

:)

The worst thing that could happen is apparently that it won't start. Mine did & it worked flawlessly. Besides that naming stuff which I only recognized after 2h or so its very good. At least first impression very good.

Yeah, thank god my forum name is not AssMaster or something like that... that would be fun to see on the ships screens :D

I know or certain MMOs that uses some kind of account name as base but still separate it from character names (i.e. Star Trek online would be "Captain Picard@BKgaming"). But to just pick the account name from whatever store you get it? URGH! Major angry smiley >:(

...I hope I'm just more cranky than usual since sleepy. I should just call it a day.

Well if someone was to pick that name, I imagine that would not care anyway. Lol

It's pretty much any online game today that uses Steamworks and now the Galaxy API. At-least on Steam you can change your display name though.

Quasebarth: They could also mention that your graphic card has to support OpenGL 4.5 or above, as it seems to give problems as well. Not a problem for me though as the Nano supports OpenGL V6.14.10.13447 according to the driver info..
I've read that this means that the official system requirements were below, well, system requirements.
Well I've been playing for two and a half hours or so now, and I'm already bored. Collect resources (aka "wave your gun around at them), juggle the tiny inventories around to make space, maybe craft an upgrade, refuel ship, fly to next planet, repeat. Sure, 18 gajillion planets, great, but apart form a a palette swap and a handful of different terrain types the planets aren't *different* in any practical sense, and what type you're on or its location it doesn't really impact gameplay at all.

On the plus side I seem to be one of the few people not having endless technical problems; it started in windowed mode, but once I went fullscreen it's been running fine at 4K with a pretty decent framerate. (Well, more or less; for some reason it did drop to about 2FPS at one point, but quitting and restarting fixed it.)
An update, for those of us who cant even start the game, it may be down to having older CPUs that cannot do SSE 4.1 support. See this post on Reddit:

B0SC0: You can play offline, it just means you won't be able to sync with the database universe between players
avatar
nepundo: Sorry if this obvious, but you mean playing offline as in switching a setting in some in-game menu, or offline as in not having internet access?
In this context, playing without the Galaxy client logged in, or playing without an internet connection.
My Galaxy Client got updated and and now I get the error 0x0000142 . Already reinstalled, reinstalled Visual and Vcredit, no joy. Plz, need help. Version I downloaded from the site is: setup_galaxy_1.1.12.108

Geraldine: An update, for those of us who cant even start the game, it may be down to having older CPUs that cannot do SSE 4.1 support. See this post on Reddit:
If that's all it is, simply recompiling the entire source code to use an earlier SSE version would probably do it; Unless it's part of some library API.

However recompiling a large project could take... days... Or hours. I know the Linux kernel takes like 5 hours to compile.

Curious if we'll see that released as an optional replacement if you have issues, or if it will be pushed as a compatibility preference for all future compiles in the near future.
