Played all the Zombotron games on Kongregate. Looking forward to this.

I've never visited Kongregate, am I missing out? I guess I am, if some game series start there before continuing later games on Gog/other big league stores.

It's casual games site online that is completely free to use. You play games in your browser using Unity or Flash, for example. There are several games/series you can try out there before purchasing here such as the Zombotron series, Rusty Lake games, and the Kingdom Rush games. Great stuff. Give it a look.

I played a few games once on the site, it has flashgames which will be removed i guess in 2020, when flash player +++, FireFox already started to +++ flash, latest FF quantum makes it hard to play flashgames that have a ( usally not optimised) Html 5 version.

FF quantum checks and if they see a non flash version exsist you cant play the flash game, thats why i have to use the portable FF ESR version to play the games without having to play the poorly optmised slow loading heavy cpu abusing games.

Anyway lots of great flash games online will be lost, and commercial online multiplayer games like Shakes and Fidget will have poor performing HTML 5 games, loaded with javasctript and other scripts.
Maybe they will be using unitywebplayer or maybe not i dont know, they have one small benefit: with HTML5 and all its poor scripts my GPU finally has to work and gets a workload which it never gets, cause many casual games are poorly written and will only (ab) use the CPU ( a few games perform good: Artifex Mundi games work a charm )

Flash has been a notorious security problem from the start, so its actually surprising that it has lasted this long, but on the other hand, I would think that it could run securely inside of some kind of VM container that isolates it, for the sake of the tens of thousands of games and other apps that were implemented in Flash. Oh well.

By the way, I've noticed that Artifex Mundi as a developer (less so as a publisher) is basically the gold standard for hidden object games. They always seem to be top quality, and most of them are rated highly. All other HO developers are hit and miss on gameplay, graphics, and other issues.

I'm not the biggest fan of hidden object, so usually I prefer non-HO adventure games, but sometimes I'm in the mood for HO, so I've been gradually collecting Artifex Mundi games in particular.

BTW they moved away from Flash quite a while ago and have been using their own engine "Spark".

A discussion on Steam about this informed that there's one series, I think "Secret Order", that has games 2 through 6 on steam, but Artifex Mundi won't sell #1, "The Secret Order: New Horizon" anywhere but Big Fish, apparently because it was Flash and the rest use Spark, and they find their older Flash games comparatively bad for their brand or something.

People who prefer all their games to be in one place as much as possible (which is most people), like the Steam or Gog launcher. are irritated that they have to get one thing from Big Fish and the rest from steam.

Anyway I need to check out that playground of older Flash games!

I know there is a way to preserve it, but if it will take too much effort they rather abandon it , afteral 'dumping' things is much easier ,cheaper then thinking how to preserve, cause that would require to think :D

There are so many new great HTML5 games around ( *coughs*) so i guess they rather abandon it then figuring out how to preserve it, abandoning is free, requires no thinking, wont cost a dime, whil thinking requires time and brainpower :D If you cant fix it dump it/ abandon it, thats the way it often goes :D

Another example of old stuff are old games, seems many old games wont run on win 10, since win 10 will be soon the only OS, chances are zero old games will be fixed: too much time, ( time = money)
, most of todays younger gamers have nothing with old games are used to modern HD games , so soon only new games will , no more old good games .... ( and the majority of new games are pretty meh).

Anyway if my current setup wasnt almost 10 years (physically) old ( old electronics have more change to 'die' suddenly) i would not even consider wasting preciuous money on a new setup.... cause why would i buy it for? not for the wonderfull new games :D

Its a good thing i switched to casual games several years ago, cause 75% of all available new causal games and AAA games are not what i am looking for.


Regarding Spark , until now it does run a charm, every Spark game runs well on my old machines , Alawar has very good games but... performance is very bad.... usually CPU issue ( i think its a FPS issue too many frames)
I always buy Artifex games at release on Steam, cause only a few HOG are here and 2 point n click are here which i also bought here on GOG. A new HOG will arrive on 29 aug on Steam , already wishlisted by me :D

Its sad we cant save the single player online flashgames to our pc and convertit to exe :D
if we could i'd save my favorite ones to disk and create an exe.

Kinda dumb that the game ends on a non ending. Not that the story was engaging in the first place.

But you should be able to save the .swf file, and play it in any flash player. At least that's what I did, like 10 years ago when I was active on Kongregate. I still have an archive with some really good gems I played there.

i had a standalone flashplayer , came with a swf converter tool, but the tool is old , no longer worked and was deleted when i uninstalled win xp.


Anyway maybe i have a portable one some where in my old archives, cause i alread found swf i converted to exe so i must have a flasplayer somewhere on my win7 installation, its not the default one in system 32 folder, tehre a re more files in that folder, i had a single file that played the swf and could dave it as a .exe ( only worked on single files ofcourse not on swf that needed to acces more swf movies lie the games online did, i converted the steaven seagal flash movie with it to an exe.
