The famous Polish movie director died today :(

Even if he was Polish, his main career took place in France where he directed artsy movies mainly in the 80's.

Last movie I saw from him was "Mes Nuits Sont Plus Belles Que Vos Jours", top-notch performances by Sophie Marceau and Jacques Dutronc in a weird love story on the northern French coast.

This feels very familiar.. wasn't there another foreign director you claimed was a major influence in Belgium?
And that passed away last year.

???

I don't think so, you must confuse me with another forumer(but well, my memory is not great either).

BTW, out of curiosity, I checked imdb and saw (or rather calculated) that Verhoeven is already 77years old so I guess we can prepare ourselves to lose him soon :(((
Oh well, I'm still slightly feverish so I could be wrong.
It could also have been an actor.
Oh well, I've never seen any of his movies but it's always a shame when a creative person passes.
RIP :^(

Time to rewatch Possession.

Oh boy, you're the optimist, he might live to be 110 and still live while we are already fertilizer.

Since my personal "movie golden age" is set in the 70's & 80's it's almost normal that this generation of directors is currently dying and that becomes news. What bothers me is the millenial generation where I have a hard time to name just a dozen directors who impressed me :'(

I had the same feeling... :P
Can't say I'm his big fan, but I still remember seing Possession on TV for the first time. I was a teen, I never even heard of Zulawski before, and it was one of the films that actually changed my perception of cinema in general. Great, eye opening experience.

Also, recently I watched Szamanka with great commentary track by Daniel Bird, who was studying in Poland in nineties. It's creepy how some of the things he describes, about the process of Poland turning from communist to almost theocratic, applies 100% to Croatia; suddenly lot of things in otherwise confusing movie looked more clear and closer to home.
