Why is this sad?

Because Fandom is the king of Non-Content.

They're a content farm that places like 5 Minute Crafts aspire to be.

You try to look up something simple, and get inundated by autoplaying floating videos, worthless sidebars, terrible markup, non-existent moderation & fact checking, and overall it's a horrid experience for all.

That's just the wikis. Imagine how bad it'll be now.

(Though, this does explain why Terraria jumped ship to Wiki.gg.)
(Off topic: It's surprisingly hard to post a new topic due to this damn system of opening a new window instead of just opening a tab or you know, having a proper inline editor. It's only something forums have been doing right since the 1990s.)

(Secondary Edit: I need to thank the formatting processor for being completely insane.)

Unfortunately I have to agree that this is sad.

Their content is, in my opinion, worth checking, because good people still update their wikis, but, holy sadness I miss the simplicity of old wikis before Fandom swallowed them all. :(

And now we can't read 1 minute wikis without videos and propagandas poping up - thankfully we can use NoScript and uBlock to mitigate this, still, this doesnt solve the problem.
I blame Guugle as the direct responsible with their ,,websearch marketing plagued engine,,
Thanks to them all this few useless unscrupulous inept leechers prosper
as the top and only results everybody visit

Where are the brave, smart, talented people to sink the whole SEO ecosystem shiitshow
and bring again the whole amazing brightness the vast Internet is?
I wonder every single day...

Oh man, this modern times hurt a lot...

This grumpy here, over
They aquired Fanatical too ?
I heard that they can just remove wikis without backups for no reasons
https://twitter.com/Ameliahansford/status/1576951652279808005

Only found some backup for guides, none for passwords and cheats.

2 GB of gaming history

This is sad news because another piece of history is going down the drain. I guess MobyGames is next?

They can also keep wikis open for no reason and refuse closure without escalation.
I just realized this also means GameSpot. Used to post there back in the day, but that was ten years ago last since. Would this change anything though? I think those websites keep changing hands, but then I never actually used them after a while so what do I know.
I used to use fandom wikis before they went to shit but now habitually avoid clicking on their links because I know I won't get anything beyond scraped / stolen test that's never organized or cross-linked properly. The autoplaying floating videos thing seems to be something most sites do these days, especially wiki sites.

Never thought they would have enough money for even one of these acquisitions. They belong well with Metacritic though. Poorly presenting and aggregating information without rhyme or reason is what both of them do so MC is a natural fit. Giant Bomb though? I thought that was one of sites with less of a bad reputation than the other games media sites.

Fanatical is the biggest tragedy for me, hopefully they won't ruin it.
Is there a way to preserve the existing guides on GameFAQs?

People are already on it.
