It's become apparent Sega Pres. does not support retro games. Could we ask him to step down? Or pay Sega to not have him as Pres.

In the past they have been supportive of retro games and released them for many platforms...

Now:
1. removing games from some online stores.
2. may not make dreamcast mini.
3. may not be too welcoming to homebrew devs.

Update: SEGA starting console wide subscription service: so might get every game. Yeah.

Looks like they're doing pretty well as of this year. 33B JPY = $210M USD = 202M EUR = 167M GBP.

Think he can do just fine without retro gaming in terms of finances.

Apparent by what evidence? Have there been statements where he calls the SG-1000 a worthless legacy?

no dreamcast mini for now

'In a conversation with The Guardian, Shuji Utsumi, the CEO of Sega America and Europe, confirmed that the video game giant doesn’t intend to release any more miniature consoles in the future. This means that the potential for not only a Sega Dreamcast Mini but also a Sega Saturn Mini seems to be nonexistent for the time being. As for the reason behind this decision, Utsumi said he’s more focused on the present and doesn’t want to keep looking to Sega’s past to chart its future.'

These do not appear to be equivalent statements. I imagine that the Dreamcast and Saturn would be prohibitively expensive to emulate, produce, and curate a segment of Dreamcast & Saturn games owing to the quirks of their respective systems. Not to mention that you go from a game the size of 8 megabytes in 1993 to 600+ MB and then jumping up to 1 GB.

In other words, 10 Dreamcast games, curated and chosen would be 10 gigabytes, potentially. And I'd have trouble thinking of 10 Dreamcast games that owing to Sega's troubles, haven't simply been ported elsewhere.

Not to mention, owing to the fact that the source code of many of the games is MIA, anything resembling accurate porting might fly out the window.
But to a blunter point, why would you want to play games on a reproduction of the Saturn or Dreamcast controllers? They're not exactly dreams in terms of ergonomics.

Dreamcast: I think a raspberry pi 4+ would be to do it easily. So 150-200 dollars for 5-6 games. Saturn: I think the gamefly service had a bugs life or clockwork knight. On the PC Windows the games easily ran on PII 300 MHz if I remember... Could sell a Saturn one for 80-150 dollars probably 50 dollars to produce?-- Controllers would be pretty awful for both... fishing games worse. Might cost $20 or more to produce... They don't want to do it.
Example :Daytona USA deluxe special edition ran on a Pentium 90 with what 32mb of ram, Directx 5! wow. 1994-1996

Hey now, don't jump to conclusions! Sega no doubt delisted the old retro collections because it's about time for a new release. In 2024, they're old hands at this game. They've been doing retro collections since at least dreamcast, maybe saturn if you count Sonic Jam.

You also shouldn't get too excited about no plans for a new mini console. That was just a fun fad that has now passed. Sega did the last major one in 2022 (Genesis/ MD Mini 2) and that only saw a very limited western release because the interest wasn't there. It took them months to sell out on Amazon. It was full of rare expensive games too. Not the familiar set we've come to expect in Genesis retro collections.

edit:

So Sega is planning a subscription service eh? I really hope they don't discontinue their retro collections in favor of this new service, like Nintendo axed Virtual Console to provide space for their Nintendo Switch Online subscription games. :(
