Hi there guys,

I've just got a mac after like 10 years of being a windows only person, so I knew there would be some problems with gog games e.g. availability etc.

Now, I've bought / already had a few games which were mac compatible and downloaded the .pkg for the games. Then Mac wouldn't install/unpack pkg so I got an unpacker, Pacifist, then unpacked files to a folder.

When I extract, the resulting folder is empty!

When I 'install', the process runs into lots of errors.

I'm starting to wish I never got this mac if I cant play games.

Any advice for installing? Latest OSX, Mac from 2016 or something.x

ah
imho just sell mac and buy one with win10
Have you checked whether those games are 64-bit?
AFAIK, Apple dropped 32-bit support in the latest OSX.

Hate to break it to you, but a recent comment on The Register pretty much sums it up: As a gaming platform, Apple couldn't do much more to actively sabotage Macs.
telling us WHAT macintosh would help a lot
intel or apple sillicone
which version of os X ?

if you have an intel mac you can skate by with bootcamp otherwise
Imagine having a Mac and expecting to actually game on it.

But without a jab at OP, here is the real deal:

- Apple dropped 32-bit libraries. Not because it was needed, or a technical reason or anything remotely sensible. It was done to... Well be typically Apple basically. They hate their users with a passion, even more then Microsoft does (which is worthy of a award in my mind)

- Apple computers cannot handle long lasting heavy loads by design. Sure, they can run games like Tomb Raider or WoW (or anything 64 bit with a decent port for that matter), but they are not designed to handle such a load. The active cooling of a typical Mac is so poor, they thermal throttle in seconds, while still hanging around 90C+ degrees. Most Macs are more akin to being very expensive CPU/GPU ovens, then actual hardware.

- Their new processor, is designed to actively prevent you of running bootcamp. It has many other great features btw. Features as: Monitoring you on a hardware level, giving Apple the option of preventing you to run certain software when they decide so, not because you as a paying customer have any rights.

- Gaming rigs, or even professional workstations, are expensive. So upgrading them is one of the ways you can save costs compared to buying a new one every year. Not Apple, they love to solder, glue and what not everything to a board so you cannot upgrade physically. Just buy a new one. It's better for the environment anyway to make a crap-tonne of e-waste every single year for profit. E-waste coming from Chinese sweatshops btw. I simply love it, I am all for slavery and Apple knows how to handle a slave-trade like a 18th century boss!

- You cannot choose a external graphics card. Well, you can as long as it's AMD based. If you want anything nVidia? Well, some CEO of Apple dislikes the color green and therefor you as a paying customer have no choice.

I could go on for many, many, many bullet points on why it's nearly peak stupidity to own a Mac, let alone for gaming. But the company and it's users have such a thick solid lead plate on their forehead, that it is a depressing waste of time to try it.

TL/DR: I am so filled with envy of people who own a Mac. The best computer ever for it's users, the environment, honest payment for employees and technical progression as a whole.

What does this mean? What actually happens? The process is: double-click on the installer, agree to EULA, choose install location, wait a bit. Are you sure it didn't install and you just didn't see where it went? In the worst case, while it shouldn't be necessary, you could always use Galaxy instead.

False. There are legit technical reasons, some Linux distros do as well, and Windows will sooner or later. (Microsoft already dropped 32-bit support for the OS this year, though not apps yet. I'm sure the engineers would love to; they did eventually manage to kill off 16-bit support in Windows and it will happen to 32-bit too, but not because of some childish "hate their users" fantasy.) Actually almost everything you wrote was false or misleading. It's always amusing how many non-Mac users are so insecure they feel some bizarre compulsion to go into Mac topics and write fanboy silliness. Apple is far from perfect, but that was the most grossly uninformed nonsense I've seen in a while.

Some linux distro's dropped it in the main repository but can still be added by multiverse packages or ppa in case of Ubuntu/Mint.

Microsoft will keep the option open to include them by hand if needed.

Apple blocked the possibility to do so.

Misinformed my ass.

Extremely so, yes. There are plenty of discussions about the reasons for removing 32-bit support, which you could use to educate yourself if you actually cared, but the short version is that it's a drag on resources and will eventually be removed in every OS just like 16-bit support was. Anyone who's paid the slightest attention would know that Apple is typically the earliest with removing legacy support, so Macs should be avoided by those whose primary interest is in using old tech for as long as possible. At some point it's more effective to move to emulators rather than trying to maintain native support forever (e.g. DOSBox).

Besides, the topic is about someone having an issue with Mac installers, not religious people trying to spread their (misinformed) faith wherever it's not wanted.

isnt that old apple stuff? just read retro and assumed from that

32bit is not so old tech , still many apps use it , and i bet some of those won't have 64bit versions
im all for 64bit only , would it be hard to convert 32bit to 64bit bitcode?
