bluethief: I believe if GOG were to release Silent Hill 2 and 3, they would've done it back when they got Silent Hill 4: The Room and the Metal Gear titles in the store in 2020.

The reason that didn't happen is most likely because, as stupid as it sounds, Konami lost the source code for 2 and 3:

And since those HD remaster never came to PC, the originals are, well, lost so unless they somehow recover them, I guess we should have no expectations about them getting released, unfortunately.

Spectrum_Legacy: I'm glad those "remasters" didn't come to pc, they are a disgrace. Source code being lost is a great shame...such a cult ip as SH didn't deserve this neglect. However that still doesn't prevent Konami to re-release the original PC versions again (talking about SH2 and 3 obviously). Perhaps with some goodwill and community patches/wrappers included, which would fix many things along with improving compatibility with modern OS.
Apparently the dev team thought all they'd have to do is brush up some textures, they didn't know that they'd have to remake those games from scratch.

Really a simple re-release of SH2 would suffice here, since the community/moders already brushed up textures and done many fixes to the point the game is far beyond anything the HD "remasters" on consoles could ever hoped to achieve. They are still working on the 60fps mode, since as of now it still breaks a lot of stuff. It's called SH2: Enhanced Edition and it is an awesome project! Just like the RE4HD project is.

On the other hand, the SH2remake is a different story. So far it is hard to say if the 3rd party dev will deliver, but doing one of the best games ever made justice is a rather tall order. Personally I feel no hype for it, no expectations whatsoever, just wishing that Konami won't destroy SH by milking the franchise to death by all the titles they have in the pipeline. Remakes are a flavour of these times, AAA game industry is creatively bankrupt for most part anyway.

Spectrum_Legacy: SH1 as a PS1 game is completely different story though and you need the sourcecode to port it to another platform, or otherwise having an emulation layer for it, or reversengineer it to then compile a native pc build.
It would be nice to have the first game on PC and I wouldn't mind if they just resorted to emulation. In fact, aren't there some other PS1 games available here on GOG that do exactly that? I don't find it now, but at least I remember one RPG game that I think worked via emulation.

Sure, that would be better than not having it officially on pc at all as it stands now. Though I think it is complicated because of playstation copyrights, proprietary bios, etc. If you know which game it is here that works that way, I would be interested to check it out, esp. curious about the technicalities of such version.

There are games being sold for pc that use various emulators, e.g. dosbox, neogeo mvs/aes with their bioses and various arcade boards in case of games like Raiden legacy, Double dragon trilogy, etc.

Yep, it was Shadow Madness. I don't have it but apparently it's just a disk image packaged together with a PS1 emulator.

This is a game published by Piko, which is a company that tends to do stuff like this, they're kind of devoted to old games and rely quite a lot on emulation, several of their other titles on the store are just ROMs from old systems.

O thanks, that's a good find. It does indeed have a disk image (cd1 and cd2 glued together into one image) and emulating layer. Pretty interesting release, considering it's ps1 game... I mean, capcom and sega does it their own way with retro collections running their own emulators. I remember a game on steam a while ago that was based on ps1 version, but instead was reversengineered to run on pc.

I know of Piko the publisher, but I didn't know that they were using Bleem!, let alone doing a commercial ps1 release(s). There's hope for more, although I think they will focus on pretty obscure titles if they can get their hands on the IP. Still, pretty cool.

We can only hope that Konami wakes up and notices free money up for grabs.
I would like to see a release of the PC versions of Silent Hill 2 & 3 on GOG because they did put out Silent Hill 4.
I have little faith in the remake. Please see to it that that Konami release Silent Hill 2 and 3 classic on gog.
