For those of you who aren't aware, Yacht Club just released a brand new full color HD Shovel Knight adventure called Shovel Knight Dig for PC, Switch and Apple Arcade. Despite the fact that we got the treasure trove and everything else the original game entailed, GOG is surprisingly silent with this long awaited new adventure. Maybe they burned too many bridges, but it is awful damn disappointing that we can't get a game like this on release.

Edit: Just realized they made this a roguelite which discourages exploration and I'm no longer personally interested. Also a lot of negative reviews on another platform. Still sucks for those who wanted it.

I was literally just watching my brother play Shovel Knight Dig on his phone and was like, "Wait, that is out already?" only to come home and look it up and find out yes, but no GOG release. Disappointment reigns. Seriously, what the heck Yatch Club Games?
Even worse for Mac users...it's not even on Steam, but only on Apple Arcade, which means if you want to play it you have to rent it for $5/month, and if you stop paying you can't play, and if/when it's removed from Apple Arcade, it's gone forever. It's not the first time devs have made exclusivity deals with Apple like that. The exclusivity deals with Epic are bad enough. I'm all for Apple spending money to encourage Mac versions, but ****NOT**** as a DRM rental-only model, that's just horrible. The only "good" thing is that the game seems to be not nearly as good as I was expecting, so I don't care as much as I would have otherwise.

Yeah, I'm kinda glad it's not the game I'm interested in, because that pay model sounds terrible.

Yes, but on the other hand, even if you could keep it forever they would try their best to break compatibility as soon as possible.

Sorry, couldn't resist. The contempt they display for their userbase is hard too take.

You should have resisted since that's really quite ignorant, sorry. The "contempt" only exists in your head and they don't try to break compatibility like that. The only semi-recent example of compatibility issues was dropping 32-bit support, however developers were told years in advance and most software was 64-bit by then anyway. I have issues with Apple, but at least the OS isn't DRMed with forced updates and so on. And Linux actually does have pretty significant compatibility issues, to the point where a lot of users give up and run Windows versions of games through Wine instead of native Linux versions.

eric5h5:
That's actually very ignorant, since 1) you didn't get that it was meant as a joke and 2) you're deliberately missing the point of Apple's hostile environment towards users and developers. Warning developers is absolutely useless for legacy software. The glaring issues are broken OpenGL, Metal instead of Vulkan and so on. Deliberately deleting user data with their music streaming service and then offering no apology. Those are just the things I can think of in thirty seconds.

Sure it was.
and 2) you're deliberately missing the point of Apple's hostile environment towards users and developers.
No, you're just repeating tiresome and misleading internet memes that everyone thinks they have to shoehorn into the discussion anytime anyone mentions Apple (while hypocritically ignoring or excusing the many, many faults of the competition). Let me know if you actually want to have a good-faith discussion based on facts. I guarantee I'm not a cheerleader, as should be obvious from my strong annoyance with Apple Arcade that I started this with.

I don't believe that you are able to have a good-faith discussion based on facts about anything, since you that everything with insults however mildly you think they are. Your mistake is thinking that I didn't encounter those troubles as a developer. I won't stand having things put into my mouth.

It was! That's the end of every discussion we're ever going to have without an earnest apology from you, since, again, I refuse to have someone deliberately misinterpret what I wrote and insinuating that I'm an idiot.
