I like gaming on PS3 but from time to time I get network error when I can't sign in and there's nothing I can do about it. This continues for few or several days until it suddently starts working again. Net works fine on all my other devices. I'm starting to think Sony deliberately do this for ppl to migrate to PS4 and paid online. Hello, I already pay for my internet. I know online infrastructure costs them money but why do I not hear GOG and Steam complaining.
Thoughts about dishonest business practices are mostly met with skepticism, but I have the very same problem with my PS3. It started maybe six months ago. It keeps dropping connection to PSN at seemingly random times, and for quite long time periods.

My PS4 and Vitas work perfectly. I have a PSN+ subscription and always use an ethernet cable instead of WiFi, which sometimes do make me ponder about the same theories as you. The network connection itself is usable (the web browser works) but not the connection to PSN.

One thing which I have noticed to help a bit is to make sure the trophy synchronisation is off and clear out old messages. There are quite serious issues with the synchronisation implementation on the PS3. It takes almost an hour to perform and have a high risk of resulting in an error.

Sounds like a bugger especially when you want to just lay on your couch & have some gaming. That's why I dislike anything that relies on internet connection to work as intended...
It's ridiculous that it needs PSN as a backbone of other features too. If you can't sign into PSN you can't even watch Netflix, which is the pretty much the only thing I use my PS3 for.

Once a week i'll turn it on to watch something and it needs a bloody update, which takes like 20 minutes. By the time it over I don't even want to use it anymore and shut it off. I'm not even sure what the hell they're always updating on it. I also get the odd random disconnect / connections issues as the OP, but rarely.

Consoles are just a pain in the ass. Running a long HDMI cable from my main PC rig to the TV was the best thing i've ever done.

sony sucks! they lie, they lie, they lie and they lie! but what makes me confused is that i actually like all my sony consoles (although they can't beat gamecube and dreamcast) and i love ps exclusives. its like being hooked on crack, i guess.

This triggered me. I forgot about that experience.

There should really be a difference on consoles between urgent updates, and minor updates that can be delayed until shutdown while you go ahead and play offline.

Or watch Netflix, like any internet browser allows you to do.

Confused, for PSN?
I've never had huge trouble with connections; it's a little spotty, but so's my PC. I think I just live in a bad area. But I feel the people who are complaining about forced updates. Really obnoxious. See also, games downloading, then immediately insisting that I download an update for them; surely they should just update the installer?
