So I'm trying to update GOG Galaxy on my Mac (Macbook Pro 2012, El Capitan), and I get these two simultaneous messages (check the picture). End result is that I'm not getting the update and Sophos cleans up whatever it finds before I see exactly where it is (I did manage a glimpse of ...autoupdater...)

...Please stop plugging random crap into an OS made by one of the top tech firms in the world. They know better.

(By the way, this is why Android security is such shit -- manufacturers mess with Google's OS. Nexus and Pixel are fine.)
I've never even heard of Sophos, so that's probably your first problem.

Also, does the product allow submissions? Because if not, I'd throw that software out into the Thames where it belongs.

Are you running the latest Sophos Home? Sophos is a reputable company, but this is probably just a false positive.

Also, running A/V on a Mac is a smart thing to do. Lots of crappy Windows only viruses like to hide out in files on Macs only to infect Windows boxes on the same network. :)

There a few (granted not very many) pretty nasty Mac Viruses out there too.
The number of antivirus programs with false positives is outright stupid at this point. Get proper stuff.

Far better to have false positives than false negatives. ;) Granted, there's such a thing as "too many", but still.

Yup, most A/V won't stop zero days, not even Malwarebytes. The only real protection is watching what you click and download.

This site will keep you safer than most security progs.... Free protip for today: if you think your browser is being attacked, NEVER try to close it from inside the program. Use the task manager AFTER you write down the URL of the page. Do NOT shut down your computer until you find out what you're dealing with.

Antiviruses with many false positives usually have even more false negatives ;)
I had the same issue. It appears to be a false positive. I had to temporarily turn off scanning in Sophos preferences in order for the update to install.

Thing is, people generally don't want to know that they're being led to the slaughter. Too upsetting. o.O

I have the same issue with Sophos and GoG Galaxy on Mac.
I've been seeing this from Sophos forever, it seems, and it baffled me for a long time. Finally noticed that the warning appeared pretty much only when I had GOG Galaxy running. Not just when I was attempting to update it, but ANY time I had GOG-G running. Sophos acknowledged the problem (thought not specifically in relation to GOG-G) in a forum posting and promised a fix back in March of 2016, but it appears one never came as the warning persists to this day.
