That was pretty much exactly what I was thinking playing Dark Forces II last week. Just take this story, cast better actors (I liked the FMV cut scenes, but let's be honest) and bam! there's your movie. Seven great villains where now we have none. A likeable protagonist who is a mix of han Solo and Luke. Likeable sidekick with actual character. A new, not rehashed but simple, easy to follow story. It would be great for new and old fans alike. They could add Luke to the mix, to join Kyle and train him (the story would have to be expanded a little for a full length movie anyway).

^ stuff like this.
the new costume design and the fact that the character has just had this presence in the run up to t he release made me think that he was in it.

when you go to the movies here, depending on the movie sometimes, there's usually this game where you download their app and use it to answer questions on displayed on the theatre screen. you compete against other theatre-goers and highscores get displayed on the theatre screen after the game. victor gets points in the theatre's points program which can be redeemed in ludicrous amounts for free tickets or food. more manageable are discounts on purchasing digital downloads of movies and so on. he was a question in that.
edit: this is basically a way to sign people up for the theatres points program, digital distribution attempt, data mine, and cleverly remind people to turn off their phone in a non-annoying fashion.
though to make sure I'm not being misleading I don't mean that he was all red, but that he had more fresh red trim on his costume. my brain is just going "oh! red boba fett!". so I assumed tat the fresh paint job I'm seeing meant new fett.

Also, where is Kyle Katarn?
I guess he (along with many others) fell victim to the new canon Disney is trying to do. A shame. And now it feels like Luke Skywalker got old without doing anything useful in his entire life. Some last Jedi he is. All the hopes of Yoda and Kenobi gone to waste.

Oh. Well, that's interesting. Never heard of that before. But I hope we don't get something like that here. The last thing I need is to wait even longer before the movie actually starts (the fucking commercials!). And I would not participate anyway. I don't do apps, point programs or any of that.
As for Fett, I don't know about the red suit in that quiz, but I assume the merchendising was just due to "let's sell EVERYTHING" approach. And the easter eggs are just, well, easter eggs. And fans who love to read way too much into things.
But it looksl ike Fett will get his very own movie some time around 2020.
So we've got young Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan (set between ep III and IV) being talked about. And their possible sequels. Damn, we're gonna be sick of Star Wars in five years tops.

- she's left alone on Jaaku and is waiting for her family to return (has only dim memory of them, from what I understood). Luke disappeared years before (this is probably the most tenuous of the connections I saw, but still, it's there).
- she's extremely strong in the Force. Just like Luke (and his family line).
- Luke's lightsaber called out to her.
- she's a natural pilot and mechanic just like Luke.
- during her battle with Kylo Ren, the lightsaber goes to her and not Ren when the two of them are struggling to call it with the Force.
- as you noted, there seems to be more to that final scene than her just finding Luke.

Still, perhaps she is all three! his daughter, his student and the one who wiped out all of the students. Luke couldn't bare killing her, and instead mind blasted her or something. He then despondently exiled himself to await her inevitable return to him while he tried to figure out what to do, or something to that effect. Problem is she's a bit young for this version. Though I can't remember whether it was somewhere specified how long Luke was missing at the start of the film. Presumably long enough for the First Order to become a real threat, in which case it shoots this theory out of the water I'm afraid :P

I'm really confident she's Luke's daughter. the whole cousin vs. cousin thing would be quite an angle if she actually is Luke's daughter.
I'm almost wondering if this thing with this new vader they've made is intentional because they intend almost a bait and switch where he comes back far more threatening in the following films. in this new state, partly having arrived there because of what he went through early on, it will solidify his ability to remain evil in the face of perhaps finding out that she's family and cement his villainy and villanous gravitas so to speak. and given that the general rule here seems to be re-do the OT there might just be some redemption moment between them at the end of the third one.
that was actually my favourite scene of the whole movie, though. I gotta give em' props for the fantastic ending. he's hiding away on this planet because of his failure and because he made a new sith lord. perhaps he tried and failed to redeem him and he either doesn't have the strength to defeat him or doesn't have the heart to kill his best friend's son. you would think that he must have felt Han's death as a disturbance in the force. so now he blames himself even more and is even more depressed. and then his daughter shows up with his father's lightsabre. the infernal thing. a call to action. an emerging hope. a terrible risk with even higher stakes than with Han's son. and there at the centre of it, that infernal thing. his father's sabre. the sabre of his father who would become the demon. the sabre of his father who wielded the power to change history like no other. the sabre of his father who would become the redeemed. and holding it, his daughter. it was a great ending.
though, could also be there's something we don't know. there could be something on the planet he's protecting. it could be this was his plan all along and when she finally showed up, especially after Han's death at the hands of Ren, he was dreading it. but I like that version less, though. I think it's better the other way and he left her on the planet because he dared not involve her.

In fact, I'm really curious about how that massacre in the academy played out, because Kylo didn't exactly present himself as someone very capable. If someone totally untrained kicked his ass, an entire academy full of other students, even if Luke was away celebrating Life Day with Chewbacca's family or something, should have massacred him, not the other way round.

As someone suggested in this thread or another; maybe they pull a Revan with Rey.

I think Rey is just very strong in the force even without any training. Strong enough to beat a lower trained sith, Ren also seemed to be having trouble with the dark side of the force and wasn't totally all the way gone yet, hence his dark side power was low. Also seemed like it was one of the first real lightsaber battles he's been in. But that does question what exactly happened at Lukes academy like everyone mentioned.
I think I read somewhere Kylo has like seven sith friends or something, maybe they ganged up on Luke. Still a master Jedi like he was after the return of the jedi, he could have easily taken out seven lowly sith. Maybe it was Snoke.
Also what Snoke said, looked like Kylo needed to be beaten so he's angry enough to be a more powerful dark jedi. Like Vader. :D

It was actually the female protagonist that got me interested in actually seeing the film in the first place. If Rey were a man, I would not have seen Star Wars Episode 7 at all.
